Phoenix news alert! Last Thursday, Phoenix Lawrence was featured by WCVB Channel 5 in a beautiful segment on our Makerspace. The Makerspace, a collaboration with La House, is dedicated to artistic expression and therapeutic healing at Phoenix Lawrence. Created in response to the tragedy of the Merrimack Valley Gas Explosions in 2018, the Makerspace is a powerful example of the resiliency, talent, and spirit of solidarity within the Lawrence community. If you've got a few moments and want to hear from some of the incredible staff and students who make this partnership possible, take a watch/listen below! https://lnkd.in/emBdPREw #provingitspossible #edthataddsup #lawrencema #arttherapy

93 percent of those affected by vision loss have some remaining vision. Only around 7 percent see nothing. This shows us that 1. If you are newly diagnosed and or worried that slowly going blind means that one day you will definitely see nothing, the chances are you will retain some useful vision and be a part of that 93 percent. 2. The world’s perception of blindness being someone who sees nothing is wrong. They believe that we are all like the 7 percent who see without light perception, when in fact most of us can make eye contact with others, still enjoy a movie and use our cell phones plus many more. The need for education around these subjects is so important as these misconceptions lead to more issues for people like me than most sight people realise. Lots of people affected by low vision and blindness avoid going out as much as they should do due to the reactions of people. They feel hesitant to use mobility aid such as a guide dog or a white cane because they feel like they don’t look blind enough have you ever felt any of these misconceptions and how is it affected? You post the common below and share this post to create more awareness, around the obstacles that people with low vision and blindness face every day.

"Everyone is capable of play. And everyone could benefit from more of it. Reimagining the potential of age-friendly planning to actively consider, integrate, and pursue play could reshape the very meaning of an age-friendly world." I'm pleased to share my and Maxwell Hartt's article "Older adult perceptions of play and play-enabling public space" which has been published in Cities & Health. A huge thank you to all who participated in and supported this study! https://lnkd.in/e2scsbDj
