Day 1 of the Bright Network #IEUK2024⚡️⚡️ The day commenced with a motivational introduction James Uffindell, who shared the inspiring story and ambition behind establishing Bright Network. ✏️ Ajay Kabra followed with a compelling session about his journey into audit, detailing the challenges he faced when moving from India to continue practicing. He highlighted that what kept him motivated in audit was the trust placed in him by society, a responsibility he found deeply fulfilling. Insights from Ajay Kabra session What He Could Have Done Better: 🍀 Being brave 🍀 Being a bit more curious 🍀 Staying true to oneself Qualities He Looks For in Junior Team Members: 🍀 Growth mindset 🍀 Willingness to learn 🍀 Curiosity His session was incredibly informative and insightful. ✏️ Joao martins from Deloitte led a session on leadership, focusing on the core skills essential for effective leaders: Communication,Time Management, Accountability and Initiative, Creative Problem Solving and Teamwork. He emphasized the power of the Eisenhower mamanagement, underscoring its practical applications for participants. ✏️ I also attended the "Black Heritage Industry Perspective" panel, featuring brilliant panelists such as Johnson Zion Adeyanju, Conrad Essilfie-Conduah, Rachel Gbogbo-Morthy, Goke S., Mahari Hay and Alicia Thomas. The discussion centered around the importance of guidance, mentoring, and sponsorship within the communities. Alicia Thomas particularly stressed the need to look beyond skin color in some situations finding common grounds, recognizing that this perspective can be crucial also. ✏️ The next panel discussion was on the "Workforce of Tomorrow" with Pooja Mangat, Holly H., Felicity Lees-Price, Suresh Patel and Christopher Do. Although I couldn't attend from the beginning, my key takeaway was the advice given to new graduates: Be authentic, be passionate about your pursuits, and use feedback from interviews and sessions as opportunities to learn, grow, and move forward. Instead of thanking them for their contribution, it's regrettable to see these companies pursuing them after they've left. Before your talent bids farewell, companies should ponder this: If an organization fails to safeguard and champion its senior leadership during their tenure, it's a lamentable situation. It's disheartening to witness large companies courting these leaders only after they've departed for other ventures. This issue extends beyond senior leadership; even at all levels of employee level, when individuals aren't appreciated, promoted, fairly compensated for their skills and contributions, or provided with the right environment to excel. Few points to be noted: Evaluate the worth of your employees. Compansate them with the market and their potential to contribute. Provide right promotions and acknowledge their contributions. Give opportunity for them to excel, and help organizations to grow. Given them right farewell, even when they leave. Let them spread good words about what organization has done for them.
