𝗨𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 '𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁': 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 ⚠️ Have you heard of the "Terribly Quiet Chat"? Atul Gawande's insightful New Yorker article sheds light on the often-overlooked issue of physician impairment, a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities within our healthcare system. Ignoring the signs of physician impairment can lead to significant risks, including compromised patient safety and potential litigation. Can your institution afford to ignore these warning signs? Here’s how we can tackle this issue effectively: ♦️ Implement Comprehensive Protocols: It’s time for a systematic approach. ♦️ Conduct Regular Mental Health Screenings: Early detection can prevent serious complications. ♦️ Establish Anonymous Reporting: Create a safe space for concerns to be voiced without fear of reprisal. ♦️ Provide Accessible Wellness Programs: Support should be readily available, no hurdles. ♦️ Offer Rehabilitation and Return-to-Work Plans: Ensure a safe and supportive comeback for physicians. ♦️ Train Staff to Recognize Signs of Impairment: Equip everyone with the knowledge to help. By adopting these strategies, we ensure a safer healthcare environment where both professionals and patients are protected. What measures is your organization taking to address physician impairment? I'd love to hear your thoughts. 💬 #healthcare #patientsafety #physicianimpairment #medicalrisk #health #publicspeaking

I'm still recovering from my last endo operation. The pain is endless, the journey is deeply problematic, and the research still has a long way to go. It's heartbreaking that on top of having this condition, you also have to be an advocate for yourself every step of the way. Fighting through being belittled, feeling unheard, and disregarded in the health system. It's exhausting. I can't express how much having a supportive place to work in makes a difference. It's why I choose to freelance so I can be adaptive, but this also comes with its own huge burdens of not having the structures in place to support you when you need to be in hospital, or crawled up in a ball. I really want to push for more support in this area. I am gearing up to start a new collaborative creative project exploring this, so would love to connect/chat more with anyone that's interested. If you don't know much about endometriosis, please do look into it and consider how your work practices can be more adaptive and empathetic to those experiencing chronic pain. Endometriosis UK has some fantastic resources as well as the The Endometriosis Foundation run by the incredible Carla Cressy. If you think you might be experiencing it, I am always here to chat, share my own journey or point you in the right direction! #endometriosis #endoawareness #endometriosisactionmonth #creativehealth #artsforhealth #chronicpain #accessibility #inclusion #wellbeing #creativesector

Anxiety can interrupt your daily functioning. Its impact on daily life is far-reaching and can perpetuate a cycle where it leads to behaviors or situations that, in turn, increase anxiety. Fortunately, studies show that when clients practice skills and therapeutic exercises between therapy sessions, their likelihood of a successful outcome increases from 32% to 68%. Those outcomes include reduced symptoms and tools to empower patients to manage anxiety triggers. But as a therapist, how do you ensure that your patients do their homework between sessions? It can be almost impossible to call all your clients multiple times each week to remind them to practice skills. This is where we can help. Visit the Adhere.ly Insights section. This can be an enormous breath of fresh air for anyone who’s ever felt shame about their body — or been dismissed at a doctor’s office because of their weight.
