Iouri K. came to the United States in the 1990’s seeking the “American dream.” A hard worker, Iouri built a successful business in Boston. During the pandemic, the strain on his company and marriage became too much, and Iouri became homeless. Now, he is in an apartment of his own and feeling thankful. Rosalynn Carter has died at the age of 96. The former First Lady and humanitarian activist was born in Plains, Georgia, in 1927. Mere days later, she met Jimmy, who was a toddler at the time and the son of the nurse who’d delivered her. They would go on to marry when Rosalynn was 18, making their marriage the longest in United States’ Presidential history. Agreed Linda Burney 16 years ago this one word marked an important ocassion and maturity in our nation’s history book. We need to see that same conviction, grit, determination and compassion of former PM Kevin Rudd in this current day Australian Labor Party (ALP) Government. Stolen Generation impacts are still being felt by our people and communities. Close the Gap measures are not being met. Policy and funding is inadequate and does not reflect an urgency to act, respond, bring about equity and heal our people and nation - particular in the aftermath of a failed referendum. The latest Anthony Albanese / Jim Chalmers Federal Budget does not reflect an ALP Goverment that made this momentous apology 16 years ago, nor the solmn promise to Close the Gap. The Budget could and should have been a watershed moment alike the apology to the Stolen Generations, instead it is a missed opportunity and lack of leadership that will compound the continued failure to Close the Gap. If this Budget is an ALP Goverment with a $9B surplus, I’d hate to think what policy and funding looks like with a deficit. It’s time to move beyond words and symbolism. It’s time to act! Australian Government .
16 years have passed since one word changed this Nation – Sorry. Today is a day for all Australians to reflect and acknowledge the strength and resilience of Stolen Genetations survivors, their families and communities, and those who never made it home.

Happy April 1st! This is not a fool's joke: Today, more than 118,050,734 Americans—overwhelmingly assetless working-class families—will hand over the lion’s share of their after-tax income to 24,230,596 land-lorders who hoard human shelter in order to extract rent-interest by means of the implicit threat of homelessness. This is 80+K more rent-trapped people than last month. This is a moral crime against freedom, prosperity, and meritocratic society. We should be ashamed this feudal injustice still exists. Christians in particular should joyfully refuse to participate in Mammon’s gross economic injustice by immediately divesting of rental properties, REITs, real estate stocks, banking shares, and bank bonds. It is a sin to profit from the hoarding houses. Shelter is not a commodity, it is a God-given human right.

My assignment starts with a call, usually from 911. It's always straightforward: "Can you come?", "We need you at this address." and, "How soon can you get there?" The urgency is clear, but the details aren't. Until I get there, I won't know what's happened, who needs my help, or how long it'll take. But one thing's for sure: someone's having a really tough time, and they need a Chaplain. My 'Go bag' is always ready. It's got the basics – a notebook, a rain jacket, some snacks, tic tacs, etc. These are the things I can count on needing. Every call is different, though, so I've got to be ready for anything. On the drive over, I pray and think about my own family. I ask myself: What would they need in a crisis? How would I want them cared for? What questions might they have? My goal is to offer comfort, compassion, and a calm voice to help whoever I'm meeting through the shock and grief they're facing right now. This is part of what being a Chaplain is.
