After a century of indiscriminate fire suppression policies, we've been left with overgrown landscapes that act like tinderboxes for much more catastrophic #wildfires. Unfortunately, a disproportionate amount of funding still goes toward fire suppression. Many communities simply don't have enough money left over to fund the necessary #prevention and #preparedness activities. Today, I heard about another tragic shooting. It’s truly despicable that we live in a world where such events have become almost commonplace. There’s something called catastrophic coverage—a policy designed to protect against the worst-case scenarios. It’s heartbreaking that we even have to consider this kind of coverage in response to these horrific situations. While it’s essential for organizations to be prepared for the worst, we must remember: a building can be blown away and rebuilt, but a human life is irreplaceable. I pray for those affected and their families. May they be under God's eye and find comfort in His presence. We need to push for better solutions, safer communities, and a world where people, not just buildings, are truly protected. #SafetyFirst #Community #Preparedness #ValueLife

Here's a fun summary of the link above. - You have to be at lease 150 feet away from any structure or vehicle, whether you are on your property or not. - Don't trespass! You need written approval in advance to set off fire works from another person's (or entity's) property. - Don't poke out an eye (or worse). Don't aim fireworks at another person, or pet. - Disaster Recover Teams appreciate time off.... don't create a community emergency over the weekend --- be sure fire works are not directed at any buildings or vehicles. - Stay Sober. If you are discharging fireworks, you cannot be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or under the influence of any other controlled substance. - Before calling the police... The significance of the #WinterReady campaign cannot be overstated; it stands as a crucial and timely initiative. The efforts spearheaded by FEMA and the USFA play a pivotal role in equipping our communities with essential information and tools to enhance resilience and safety. In recent months, our community has grappled with a series of devastating fires stemming from space heaters, overloaded electrical systems, and the use of unpermitted or unsafe heating equipment. Tragically, one of these incidents led to the loss of three lives. It is imperative that we acknowledge the urgent need for awareness and preventive measures. The expertise and guidance provided by USFA Administrator Dr. Moore-Merrel are invaluable resources in understanding and addressing these pressing challenges.
