CEO of Wisnio | Talent data for Private Equity, Venture Capital, and Executive Search (we're hiring)
We hear from our Private Equity clients that the CFO role is the most difficult hire (aside from the CEO) for their portfolio companies. Partly because there simply are not enough CFOs with prior PE experience. But also because PE investors see the role of the CFO as much broader than most CFOs do. To help with that, team Wisnio looked at the data and designed a short hiring scorecard and evaluation guide for a PE-backed business CFO. Top 3 key requirements: 1️⃣ Successful track record in PE 2️⃣ Exit strategy & valuation mastery 3️⃣ Operational efficiency leadership Top 3 leadership competencies: 1️⃣ Strategic Thinking 2️⃣ Ensuring accountability 3️⃣ Business Acumen 📝 Link to the full list and practical evaluation scorecard is in the comments. _____ Private Equity talent leaders in my network - is there anything we missed? #privateequity #executivesearch #talentanalytics

Reason to Hire an Interim FP&A Director: New CFO Needed Investor-Grade Management Information Management information (MI), both financial and commercial, is essential for any business, enabling operational leaders to make well-informed decisions. Additionally, robust MI can protect against activist investors. A recent example highlights this need: A newly appointed CFO of a growing healthcare business reached out to me through a network contact. The company lacked adequate management information, necessitating the introduction of an experienced Interim FP&A Director. This interim professional was tasked with building a comprehensive MI framework and integrating finance into the business to support operational leadership effectively. #ceo #leadership #business #entrepreneur #management #strategy #innovation #startup #executive #success #finance #founder #businessowner #corporate #visionary #strategicplanning #businessmindset #leadershipdevelopment #businessgrowth #ceolife #interimcfo #interimFD #privateequity #venturecapital

I agree. CFO's do tend to make good CEO's. Good Sales Directors tend to make good Managing Directors too. Why? In a world where senior leadership has evolved and needs to be much more visible and people centric, as well as financially savvy, it makes sense that there has been a considerable uptick in CFO's taking vacant CEO slots. I think these two 'growth roles' go hand in hand because studies show that CFO's don't drive top-line revenue growth at the same pace as those from other senior backgrounds. So a sales-focused MD and a finance biased CEO can really make great things happen in a business. If you're a business looking at succession planning, I recently interviewed an exceptional 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 based in the North West who will be an asset to any business looking to grow.
