🌱♻️ NETZSCH and DOEN Participaties B.V. invest in Veridis to make recycled plastics the norm by 2030! Together with impact investor DOEN Participaties, we are investing in Veridis to bring the new quality measurement standard (MADSCAN) to the market. With the secured funding, Veridis will build and run customer pilots with its innovative MADSCAN technology in 2024 and 2025. MADSCAN is a new technology for thermal analysis, i.e. it measures the different ways in which different types of plastic melt and recrystallize. "The innovative technology of Veridis can guarantee stable, higher-quality recyclate that can be recycled more often and used in high-quality. Veridis therefore makes an important contribution towards a circular chain and an alternative to the use of fossil raw materials.", says Ward Wolters from DOEN Participaties. 🌍 Sermag's projects and collaborations for a sustainable future 🌍 Projects and collaborations: LCA Study with the Proplast consortium: In 2024, Sermag will conduct a Life Cycle Assessment study on its recycled materials, in collaboration with the Proplast Consortium. Design of a deodorisation plant: Together with ITALREC srl, Sermag developed a plant to reduce odour in recycled materials, improving mechanical and environmental properties. Collaboration with Mottin Srl and the University of Eastern Piedmont: Study of a methodology to measure the deodorisation of plastic materials, with patent application pending. The future of recycled plastic: Increasing use of Post-Consumer Recycled Materials: PCR materials are increasingly in demand for high quality products such as benches, chairs and secondary packaging. Solutions for materials with excellent mechanical and aesthetic properties: improved by adding virgin materials and additives, while maintaining high quality standards. The new MARINI innovation EvoDryer: EvoDRYER’s particular shape prevents granulate binder from contacting flames or areas with excessively high temperatures. This way, RAP is heated gradually, ensuring complete binder recovery. Moreover, the EvoDRYER drying drum considerably reduces odours and emissions, thanks to the mixing tower fan, which conveys the emissions from the tower’s top to the drying drum. Harmful emissions resulting from the production process are treated inside the drum. Therefore, the level of odours and VOC that can be reached with this system, even using a high RAP percentage, cannot be compared with those obtained with traditional drying drums. Last year Lasso completed a development step in its material cleaning and label removal process as part of AB-InBev’s 100+ Accelerator. The result is a Lasso glass cullet stream that is cleaner when compared to other recycling solutions. As part of the program, the Lasso team in the US, EU, and Australia brainstormed, designed, tested, optimized, and retested an iterative step of the Lasso appliance glass cleaning and label removal. Following the successful project completion, the Lasso team produced a list of optimizations including how to work with other materials accepted by the appliance. Our team is actively investigating this work as we advance towards our next development goal, the Engineering prototype. AB-InBev helped facilitate visits to recyclers and glass manufacturers so the Lasso team could see their processes firsthand and understand where Lasso could help in how materials are prepared, processed, stored or even transported.
