Supporting Abortions For Everyone. 💭 Why did you join the #FixTheFlow Fellowship? "I have never been a traditional fundraiser and wanted to learn from others who had deeper experience than I had - and also to speak and listen to people who are committed to changing the funding landscape. And of course, to meet funders 🙂" 💭 What does Resource Activism mean to you? "At the micro-level: Activating the people who are passionate about my cause and helping them to resource the work. At the macro-level: ensuring that important causes are sustainable resourced by long term supporters, rather than lurching from crisis to crisis and having to repeatedly compete with hot new disasters for funding." 💭 What is one piece of advice you'd give to a fundraiser at the start of their career? "Be authentic and brave." 💭 What is one thing you have learned from the programme that you would like to share with funders? "There is a lot that funders could learn from the organizations you are funding, and building more equitable partnerships with your grantees could go a long way towards more mutual benefit." When we gather these young girls for the Symposium, it’s not just another meeting or a charity drive. It’s about opening their eyes to possibilities they might not even know exist. In many of these rural and suburban communities, life often seems like a cycle of struggle—where survival becomes the goal, and dreams are dismissed as luxuries. But we refuse to accept that for them. What they need is far beyond temporary relief or a few handouts that only serve as a momentary solution. These girls deserve more—they deserve the tools, the knowledge, and the networks to liberate themselves. It’s about giving them access to the kind of information that can change the trajectory of their lives, and connecting them to people and opportunities that will help them not just survive, but thrive. Our work through RFI is personal—because we believe that if given the right platform, these girls can redefine the norm. We’re investing in their futures, not as an act of charity but as a commitment to building leaders, innovators, and change-makers. When you empower a girl with the right skills and access, you’re not just changing her story—you’re transforming the narrative for generations to come. That’s why events like this Symposium matter. It’s not about what we can give them today; it’s about what they can become tomorrow. This is how they break free from the cycle of financial struggles, how they lift themselves and others up, and how they truly realize their potential. This is the work that changes lives. Today I had the pleasure of meeting with Ann Coulter accompanied by SHRO board member, Andrew Douglas, at his birthday in Bonita Springs Florida, with his loving wife Sally. Every year Andrews birthday has a surprise element. This year it was a guest speaker Anne Coulter which was amazing. After cake, we had an open and honest discussion on what is happening in the Republican Party. In an atmosphere of openness and honesty, we grappled with the question: Can we stand behind Trump? And if not, what does the future hold? Can we support Trump? If not, what happens? Anne Coulter's insights illuminated the room, addressing each query with depth and perspective. 14 anti-DEI bills have been passed in 12 states since 2023, shuttering DEI offices at colleges and universities across the country. Ironically, many of the public institutions that award the highest number of doctorates to Black women and other historically excluded groups — like the University of Florida, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Texas A&M University — are in states that have passed laws banning DEI offices, programs, and trainings. At every level of higher education, thousands of students now find themselves without the crucial support systems they need to navigate their degrees successfully. We’re at a critical crossroads. We can either lament the fall of DEI in higher education or take action. At Cohort Sistas, we’re leaning all the way in. As universities and companies choose to abandon their commitments to equity, we're taking the lead to provide the resources, mentorship, and community that research has shown increases doctoral retention and completion rates for women and students of color. We're determined to ensure that the reversal of policies advancing equity in higher ed doesn’t deepen the already significant racial gaps in doctoral education. Our "Together for Equity" campaign is a call to all who believe in the power of education and the importance of representation. Never thought this would happen to me.....but I'm delighted to share that I will be presenting at my first academic conference ... The Australian and New Zealand Third Sector Research Conference on 21 & 22 November in Sydney. The research I'll be presenting is on The Role and Influence of Women in Australian Philanthropy. Some of the findings include their preference low key recognition; how what generation they are from influences their needs from an organisation and how they want to solve problems NOW. NFPs will need to change their best practice to meet the giving preferences of their female donors.
