Growing #peas adds value to domestic #agriculture & benefits the #ecosystem. Consumers opt for regional food = opportunities for #farmers to serve premium #markets as peas can be grown thru direct relationships with #plantbased food companies & farmers. Growing #peas is not only ecologically sound, but managed correctly, it is also profitable for #farmers. This is especially the case if #contracts & guaranteed purchase quantities, e.g. from domestic #plantbased food companies, give planning security: https://lnkd.in/dh2dt72e

🌱 Lessons from the field In the glasshouses of the Adelaide Plains, growers are turning to nature’s beneficial bugs to control pests and reduce the need for chemical pesticides. With integrated pest management (IPM), these ‘good bugs’ are protecting crops like capsicums, tomatoes, and cucumbers, ensuring healthier, more sustainable produce. Key insights from local growers: - Andrew Braham, Braham Produce: “With so many growers in close proximity, bugs can quickly develop resistance to chemicals. But since we adopted IPM, we haven’t looked back.” - Anita Marquart, Biological Services: "By harnessing the power of beneficial insects, we’re reducing the need for chemicals and making food production safer and more sustainable.” - Andrew Potter, P'Petual Holdings: “We’ve got an army of bugs working seven days a week, breeding in the greenhouse, and it doesn’t interrupt operations.” Interested in learning how Biobest can help you reduce pesticide use and create a healthier growing environment? We welcome policymakers of all parties to the Lea Valley. It is always interesting to see whether their views on site translate to their actions. One common outcome is they aware all impressed with the skill & knowledge displayed by growers and the passion they have for their businesses. I spoke to HortWeek following the announcement of a General Election in the UK. The announcement of an election brings with it some hope for growers that they may be listened to. It has been clear for over a decade that growers issues have not been a priority for policymakers and there has not been any indications that this would change any time soon. Growers will be looking for a Food Plan and a Food policy to support the production of British food. #Generalelection #GE2024 #Backbritisfarming #Horticulture #Freshproduce #Food #CEA #CEH #Verticalfarming #VF #Salad #Agriculture #Farming #Growing #Foodplan #Foodpolicy #Labour #Tories #Libdems

For some years now, using the words "#Sustainability" and "#FoodSecurity" almost feels tiresome. These terms appear frequently, but the discussions often veer towards grandiose ideas or specific interests that have little to do with these priorities. At ECCA - The European Crop Care Association we strive to contribute to the debate with a pragmatic and unbiased approach, focusing on what we know best: the post-patent crop protection products sector. #CropProtection #ECCA #Agriculture #PragmaticSolutions #PostPatentProducts

In our research on Food and Nutrition Security, a needs assessment of small and medium scale (SMS) food producers in the five countries was conducted. It revealed that even though food producers are highly motivated to be in farming, they face a range of risk factors and challenges, including droughts, praedial larceny, pests and crop diseases, and pre- and post-harvest losses. Furthermore, the assessment highlighted that their main needs are for: 1. Training (e.g. risk management, building resilience against shocks) 2. Resources (e.g. small farming equipment, investment grants, assistance with land preparation, access seeds and farm inputs) 3. Marketing (e.g. establishing a network with buyers), and 4. Farm management skills training (e.g. how to manage a farm to be profitable, control pests, apply fertilizer) Read our report here: bit.ly/3UEmPvJ . . . . . #cpdc #cpdcngo #cpdcatwork #foodandnutritionsecurity #communityagriculturepolicy #gdp #foodsovereignty #grossdomesticproduct #gdp #nutritionaladequacy #regionalfoodplan #policyframework #food #foodsecurity #caribbeanfood #agriculture #growlocal #caribbeanfoodproducers #caribbeancommunityagriculturepolicy #foodimports #foodandagriculturestatisticaldatabase #foodandnutritionsecuritycampaign #foodavailability #foodproduction #foodaccessibility #sdgs #farming #sustainablefoodsystems #goodgovernanceforfoodandnutritionsecurity #agriprocessors

As consumers become more conscious of the environmental impacts of food production, many dairy farmers are taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices on their farms. envirolac, UFAC’s palm-free fat supplement, is the solution for farming and environmental sustainability, proven to increase milk yields and quality while offering a lower carbon footprint than palm-oil-based fat supplements. cholymet aims to reduce reliance on soya bean meal within animal feed whilst ensuring better health, higher milk production, as well as improved reproductive efficiency and farm sustainability. #dairyfarming #farming #agriculture #sustainability #sustainable #climatechange

8moIt's no doubt that sustainable development and prosperity of a nation are intricately woven into the fabric of its food systems; IF poor quality products get their way to farmers, the nation starves, farmers incur losses and farms do not achieve their potential.
