In Enemies of Progress, author Austin Williams suggests that ‘the mantra of sustainability’ starts with the assumption that humanity is ‘the biggest problem of the planet’, rather than the ‘creators of a better future’. Indeed, many climate scientists and green activists see having fewer people on the planet as a key priority. Their programme calls not only for fewer people and fewer families, but also for lower consumption among the masses. They expect us to live in ever smaller dwelling units, to have less mobility, and to endure more costly home heating and air-conditioning. These priorities are reflected in a regulatory bureaucracy that, if it does not claim justification from God, acts as the right hand of Gaia and of sanctified science. https://lnkd.in/gNxJyQn5

Young changemakers leading the net zero charge 🌍 It's incredibly inspiring to see the next generation stepping up to address climate change. Today, I want to spotlight a few remarkable young environmental activists making waves in the fight for a sustainable future: ✅ Greta Thunberg, age 21, continues to lead the Fridays for Future movement, urging governments worldwide to take bold climate action. Her unwavering commitment is driving policy changes and raising global awareness. ✅ Ann Makosinski, a 26-year-old inventor from Canada, has developed the Hollow Flashlight - an innovative device powered by the heat of a human hand. Her invention is paving the way for more sustainable energy solutions. ✅ Mya-Rose Craig, 22, also known as Birdgirl, is an advocate for climate justice and diversity in the environmental movement. Through her campaigns, she promotes the importance of biodiversity and the inclusion of minority voices in conservation efforts. These young leaders are showing that age is not a barrier to making a significant impact. Their work is a testament to the idea that sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. Let's honour these efforts by supporting their causes and integrating sustainable practices in our own lives. How can we support young activists in their mission to achieve net zero? Are companies backtracking on #sustainability? In an interview by Matt Portt on the rise and fall of sustainability commitments, he posed the following opening question: You recently shared a post commenting on a TED talk by Johan #Rockström, which highlighted that the planet is changing faster than we expected and that the costs of #climate change are increasing. Against that backdrop, you might expect companies to be strengthening their resolve in terms of their sustainability commitments, but we have seen a number of companies watering down their sustainability commitments, what do you put this down to? In the realm of #Sustainability, misinformation can hinder our collective efforts. Let's unravel some common misconceptions and advocate for a holistic approach to address the challenges we face. Misconception 1️⃣: The Climate Crisis is Natural Climate change is undeniably complex. While natural variations occur, overwhelming evidence and scientific consensus points to human activities as significant contributors to the rate of climate change not nature. Misconception 2️⃣: Carbon Is the Sole Focus Reducing carbon emissions is crucial, yet a holistic approach is key. We must acknowledge the importance of broader efforts—protecting ecosystems, promoting sustainable economics, and boosting social equality. Carbon is but one piece of the puzzle. 🌍 Happy Earth Day 🌱 Let's celebrate the worst we did to our planet and reflect on the role of human beings in shaping a sustainable future. As Albert Einstein once said ✨ "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." This statement resonates deeply in our quest for sustainability 🌱 Every action we take, no matter how small, contributes to the bigger picture of destroying our planet for future generations. In the words of Jane Goodall, "The greatest danger to our future is apathy." As sustainable professionals, we have a crucial role in driving change, innovating solutions, and raising awareness about environmental challenges. 🙌 But are we really doing it...?? #Sustainability is a "Fancy" word now...! Inspired by the work of Wangari Maathai, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, let's plant the seeds of sustainability in our daily lives and professional endeavors. Whether it's reducing carbon footprints, promoting renewable energy, or advocating for eco-friendly practices, our collective efforts can make a significant impact. All I feel, the way, reports of disclosures, of how major organizations are working for the environment and various #ESG goals are beautifully drafted, they should actually focus on its implementation and monitoring, only then the world will be a better place. On this Earth Day, I request you all to at least commit to being agents of change, catalysts for innovation, and champions of sustainability. Together, we can create a world where harmony between human activities and nature thrives. 💚☮️ Because for now we don't have anything you celebrate..!
