The5 with Eric Moraczewski welcomes Kyle Ogden, President & CEO of The Thanks-Giving Foundation. Kyle joins The5 to talk about Building a Profoundly #Caring Community. Something most, if not all, nonprofits are focused on but maybe aren't always aware of. Kyle talks about being intentional with gratitude and caring, as well as the Foundation's five key functions of Building a Profoundly Caring Community. Kyle became the President and CEO of The Thanks-Giving Foundation because he wanted to do something important in the bigger civic context, and build something sustainable for the citizens of Dallas. The Thanks-Giving Foundation is a platform that can influence the future of the community, and he believes his contribution of time, effort and resources can make a real difference as an accelerant of positive change. The physical and programmatic enhancements made are being noticed, and he is proud that the vision will deliver a place of importance within the nonprofit landscape. Before joining The Thanks-Giving Foundation, Kyle was the Chairman, President and CEO of Carroll Company. Kyle received a Bachelor of Business Administrations degree in honors business and a Master of Business Administration degree in accounting and finance from the University of Texas at Austin, and went on to earn his CPA license. In his spare time, he enjoy golf, baseball and travel. He and his wife have four adult children. The5 is a celebration of the work being done by nonprofit professionals, highlighting valuable tips and methods that nonprofits should be utilizing. The5 is aptly named as NMBL Strategies celebrates our 5 year anniversary. Host Eric Moraczewski leads guests on a journey of topics that are of deep importance to the guest and discusses how nonprofits and nonprofit leaders can benefit from the experience and expertise. #nonprofit #nonprofits #nonprofitorganization #nonprofitfoundation #nonprofitlife #nonprofitorganizations #nonprofitmanagement #nonprofitsuccess #nonprofitleaders #nonprofitgrowth #gratitude #intentionality

It was an honor to serve RaiseUp Families as their Executive Director for nearly 4 years. In that time, the organization experienced unprecedented growth: ✅ Expanded Board of Directors by 50% ✅ Doubled the number of families (clients) being served ✅ Client outcomes improved by 100% (average income increase in signature 9-month HandUp program went from 35% - 71%) ✅ Client graduation rate improved from 80% to 91% ✅ Revenue growth from $450,000 to $1,000,015 (donations from private sources) These outcomes are a result of the Board of Directors and staff working together towards a common goal, each person utilizing their unique skills and abilities in their individual role to help the bus arrive at its desired destination. They are the result of hours and hours of innovation, hard work, and determination. As RaiseUp Families celebrates its 30th Anniversary of stabilizing families from vulnerable communities who face unexpected financial crises so their children can focus on their education, giving them the opportunity for a better life, it needs a full-time leader with passion, vision, and experience to lead it forward. I could not be happier that Kate Yadan will pick up this torch and lead RaiseUp into the future! "We know that change is a natural part of life, and those who embrace it grow while those who do not slowly die, metaphorically. Two of the largest obstacles to change are ego and pride. Moving out of our own way is the toughest battle most of us will face. Giving up our seat for someone else, stepping down when it's time for someone else to step up, and gracefully exiting when we have added all the value we can, are what we should all strive for." -Angela Burgess, Are You on the Right Bus?
We are THRILLED to annouce a big change at RaiseUp Families! After a rigorous search, Kate Yadan was named our newest Executive Director as of March 1, 2024! Kate's knowledge and experience are unparalleled, and more importantly, her passion for stabilizing families from vulnerable communities so their children have the opportunity for a brighter future knows no bounds. We are incredibly grateful to Angela Burgess for sharing her vision and leadership with our clients, our staff, our board of directors, and our community over the last four years and wish her well in her future endeavors! Come out and welcome Kate at our 2024 RaiseUp Families Graduation Celebration! Sponsorships and Tickets are on sale now: https://lnkd.in/g3pn6Bjk

The name Children's Legacy Partnership is always a mouthful! Back when I started the foundation finding a name that conveyed our vision was challenging. I wanted it to be short but it was hard to find a name that wasn't taken. After a lot of brainstorming the name grew out of what we hoped to accomplish. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to testify to California's Little Hoover Commission about a topic that is important in our work at The James Irvine Foundation: how philanthropy and the public sector can leverage each other's strengths through collaboration. In my testimony, I shared that the challenges facing California are too great for any one sector to solve. Government spending far exceeds philanthropic resources, but philanthropy plays a crucial role in ensuring that the people most often left out and behind are heard and can participate in shaping government policies. That’s why we’ve been grateful to partner with the State of California through both direct and coordinated funding that leverages the strengths of both our sectors. Here are a few lessons from this work: ▪ Strong relationships with state leaders are crucial. This may seem obvious, but it requires sustained effort. In California, the Governor’s Senior Advisor for Social Innovation, Elena Chavez Quezada, has been especially helpful in fostering these relationships. ▪ Focus on co-creation. Instead of the state identifying a project and then asking philanthropy for funding, we should co-create initiatives from the beginning, with shared input. This will lead to better outcomes. ▪ Timeliness matters. Delays in government grants and contracts can strain nonprofits delivering essential services. Relieving this pressure can allow philanthropic resources to be used more strategically for initiatives that government cannot easily fund. ▪ Be opportunistic and flexible. In times of crisis, the public and philanthropic sectors work quickly and collaboratively. We should bring that same energy to long-term challenges. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this topic in the comments, and if you’ve learned other lessons from public-private collaboration. #Philanthropy #Equity #Collaboration https://lnkd.in/gXxMyRTg

Did you know that 30.4 million students in America can't afford their school meals? The average annual cost per child is $180.60, and 68.8% of surveyed schools have unpaid meal debt. Even more concerning, 96% of school districts report an increase in the number of students who can't afford their meals year after year. In Texas alone, there are 1,658,680 food-insecure children. This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a reality that many families face. It’s time we step up and make a difference. https://lnkd.in/gRGzG3wd At The Robb Kelly Foundation, we are dedicated to helping children and families in need, but we can’t do it alone. Every dollar counts. Your donation today can help feed a child, provide support, and give them a chance at a better future. If you're looking to make an impact, please consider donating to The Robb Kelly Foundation. Together, we can fight hunger and bring hope to families across the nation. #MakeADifference #EndChildHunger #RobbKellyFoundation Ray Trevino CEO

My personal philanthropy has a primary focus on the human rights of children and young people. Which is understandable when you hear my own story of childhood abuse and neglect. I strongly believe that every child deserves to be loved, safe and able to thrive, no matter where they were born. I also believe that this is the responsibility of the whole community - not just the biological parents. That is why I chose to apply to be a Trustee for Hope and Homes for Children and it was an absolute honour to be selected for this huge responsibility. As such, I have had the privilege to see the positive results of their incredible work, but there is so much more to be done. Sadly, at least 5.4million children are currently separated from their families, shut away inside orphanages, and staggeringly 80% are not even orphans. Orphanages are not the safe place we have been led to believe by decades of well meaning charity work and philanthropy. It is well researched and demonstrated that orphanages expose children to abuse, trafficking, and physical and psychological trauma that can last a lifetime. 📖🔬here is just one study https://lnkd.in/ejxvhEk7 No child should end up in an orphanage. There is ALWAYS a better solution. Today is the UN #InternationalDayofFamilies and this marks the launch of HHC’s campaign #BacktoFamily. It’s an incredible and well thought out campaign, using #AI to protect the rights of children. What can you do to help get children out of harms way today - i’ve made an easy list below (with a little help from the team at HHC) 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐 💛 Please share this poignant message from Kristin Scott Thomas 💛 Sign the petition www.backtofamily.org 💛 Donate https://lnkd.in/eJDgcu8R 💛 Attend one of HHC’s fab events https://lnkd.in/eH8BbyPT 💛 Challenge yourself and fundraise as a bonus! https://lnkd.in/eH8BbyPT 💛 Follow HHC and share their posts on social media - this is a social movement to protect the rights of the most vulnerable children 💛 Join their mailing list to stay up to date https://lnkd.in/efzc4dAz At the very least I encourage you to take a look at their website and learn more about the harmful effects of orphanages, what the alternative is and how #philanthropy has a catalytic role to play in this social movement https://lnkd.in/egzS5ua5 ‼️Philanthropy should be about learning, so if you have been funding an orphanage and want to learn what you can do to help those children please get in touch with me today xx ‼️ #BackToFamily #socialmovement #artificialintelligence #AIforgood https://lnkd.in/edyeVuQr
