Among the many things we do that are antithetical to how nonprofits are "supposed" to operate, we go out of our way to avoid partnerships with big companies...the supposed "whales" who can write big checks...and partner with smaller companies who care about what we do and why we do it. One of our favorites are the folks at Teton Sports, who quietly and without fanfare provide us with high-end backpacks we use at almost all our Special Operations Events. Coming into 2024, I set myself a few simple goals to try and improve myself and the lives of the people around me. One of my personal goals was to continue to do what I love and to finish each of the Abbott World Marathon Majors (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York). Not only have I been fortunate enough to secure my spot in each race, but I have also been given the opportunity to raise money for a few great organizations. The organizations I will be running for are Boston Scores, Save the Rhino International, and Children for a better World e.V.. The focus of these organizations are to positively mentor the children of Boston both academically and athletically through soccer, to reduce animal poaching, and to provide equal academic and social opportunity to children.   That being said… I have set myself the task of fundraising money for each of these organizations and I need your help!   This week, for the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs, I will be running football squares. Don’t know how to play? Don’t worry, it’s really easy.   How to play: A 10x10 grid will be set up with a different team on each respective axis. On Friday, January 19, 2024, I will randomly generate numbers 0-9 and assign them specific rows and columns. At the end of each quarter, the person whose name occupies the cell with the matching score (ex. If the score is 17-10, the winning square will occur at the intersection of 7 and 0) will win a cash prize. There will be two grids:           - AFC board for the Ravens and Texans game ($5/square buy-in) - NFC board for the 49ers and Packers game ($10/square buy-in) All you must do to get involved is Venmo me @Noah-Barney-2 with your square requests and I will enter you into the game. Key Features: Financial Structure: One of the most significant features of the Big Blitz is the ability to use 20% of the fees to support PGA HOPE, The HERO Project, and the Wounded Warriors Project while awarding 70% to the prize pool. This ensures substantial support for noble causes and a significant return for participants. How apropos that on July 4th we announce our LIVE event on July 11th with the incredible men of Courser Racing. If you haven't seen that, you can join the event here: https://lnkd.in/e5sxxuZB Peter , Chris, Blake, and Jamie are former Special Operators that served our country with honor. They founded Courser Racing, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 2023, in Charleston, SC to help Veterans, Law Enforcement, and Firefighters by placing them on Ocean Rowing Expeditions to support their transition to the civilian workforce. Courser Racing chose Ocean Rowing as a vehicle for transition support because it is relatively low cost (the ocean is free) and it mirrors the rigors of service required of Special Operations Veterans, Law Enforcement, and Firefighter/ EMS personnel. Like warfare, law enforcement, disaster response, and emergency medical services, Ocean Rowing requires physicality, mental acuity, emotional resilience, risk mitigation/ contingency planning, systems implementation, technological prowess, and inventory management. Courser Racing provides support to these communities through a team-based robust maritime training regimen (simulating the rigor of a deployment cycle or emergency response preparation), by leveraging a professional business mentor network for job placement and providing business experience through organic non-profit activities including fundraising, P+L management, recruiting, marketing, donor relations, and sponsorship contract negotiations. The Courser Racing Methodology supports those transitioning to the civilian workforce in 6-12 month "cohorts". Each Cohort is subdivided into four-man teams based on past experiences, aptitude, geographic location, professional aspirations, and interpersonal qualities. Once Teams are assigned, each team is given training plans, objectives, training dates, and assigned a set of mentors for transition support. Upon the culmination of the training iterations in Charleston, SC, the Teams complete their "Expeditions" launching on Courser Racing's Rannoch R45 from Charleston, SC or Pensacola, FL to a (reasonable) destination of their choice. Creating Community Impact, One Bowl at a Time 🏌️♂️ Yesterday, TurnBerry Acai had the privilege of being part of something bigger than ourselves. We joined forces with the Canada Shriners Hospital for their 13th Annual Invitational at Summerlea Golf & Country Club. The goal? To raise $1 million for life-changing medical imaging technology that keeps children safe. When we launched TurnBerry Acai 7 months ago, we didn’t just set out to make the best acai bowls in the city — we set out to make a difference. Our mission quickly evolved into "creating an everlasting community impact that transcends acai. One bowl at a time. One city at a time." 🌍 From university campuses to charity events like this one, being there for our community isn’t just a priority—it’s who we are. And no matter how fast we grow, this will never change. Should've prepped the 150 bowls in advance, but I've always been a crash course type of student haha! Could've been a disaster if dad was not here to carry the boat (insert David Goggins)! PS: I was a bit starstruck when I got to meet Montreal Canadiens' legend Chris Nilan haha! We knew he was one of us when he replied.... "discipline, to be humble, to be prepared, to complain less about the small things in life." This was in response to the question, "what does endurance teach you?" BarrUltra Racing member, Georgi Stoychev is currently about 320 miles into the non-stop, unsupported, 629 mile North Star Bicycle race. Georgi's one of our most versatile riders, skilled in both supported and unsupported racing. His longest unsupported race to date has been Bike Non-Stop US, a mere 3475-miles, where he came in third! That's a serious and strong ride so you'd be forgiven for thinking that 629 miles is a 'pedal in the park.' Not so, the North Star Bicycle race describes itself as a 'battle by bicycle', and I know that Georgi is ready to bring it, now that we've refined his fuelling and hydration strategy.
