CFP: 2024 International Interdisciplinary Conference on Myanmar's Borderlands is accepting paper & panel applications. App Deadline: Jan 15th. Conference: June 17-19 Online & In-Person (Chulalongkorn University) https://lnkd.in/e-uDhRJT -- jointly organized by ARCM Thailand | Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University | Inya Institute hosted at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand June 17-19, 2024 online | in-person Myanmar’s currently expanding crisis is bringing to the fore long-standing developments and narratives about its borderlands, which now assume additional critical relevance. Of particular significance are the socio-economic, political, and cultural dynamics of communities living in areas that have been often described as “peripheries.” These communities have long been challenging the physical and administrative barriers imposed by successive government administrations and have developed their own forms of governance. The interdisciplinary conference’s theme is deliberately broad in the time span it covers and will offer presenters and the audience an opportunity to pursue an inclusive conversation on Myanmar’s borderlands; to consider alternate framings of these territories and their populations, not just through the typical lenses of geographical and methodological borders; and to emphasize the unique contributions of these communities to the ecosystems, history, economy, and cultures of the Southeast Asia Region and their interconnectedness.

Our #VirtualCaseClinic #Event on the #Economics of #Land Degradation in #CentralAsia took place! The event on 23 April served as a platform for #reconnecting, #sharing insights, and laying the groundwork for continued #collaboration of participants of the “ELD Training: Deep Dive on Economic Valuation” (September 2023, Almaty). Their active participation is instrumental in shaping the future of integrative land use in the region. 🎯 Here's a brief overview of the discussions and key takeaways: 1. Knowledge #Recap: We kicked off the event by refreshing our understanding of the theoretical content covered in the ELD Training. Participants shared their immediate thoughts and impressions, allowing us to gauge knowledge retention and identify areas for further exploration. 2. #Opportunities and #Challenges: Through engaging dialogue, we delved into how participants are planning to integrate the training content into their daily work. From sharing aspirations outlined in country group posters to discussing evolving intentions and new ideas, participants highlighted both the potential and the obstacles in implementing these plans. 3. Support #Needs: We explored the support needed to turn aspirations into action. Participants identified technical and financial capacities, as well as the potential for further in-depth training in economic valuation and related subjects, as areas where additional support would be beneficial. 4. Future #Plans: GREEN CA shared plans for future capacity development activities, emphasizing the importance of participant feedback in shaping these initiatives. We discussed the role of ongoing collaboration in advancing sustainable land management practices in Central Asia. The event was hosted by the #GreenCAnetwork and partnered and supported by GIZ’s Regional Programme “Integrative and Climate-sensitive Land Use in Central Asia (#ILUCA)" and the #ELDInitiative and facilitated by the GREEN CA members CAMP Alatoo and EcoMuseum Karaganda as well as ELD Working Group member Vanja Westerberg from Altus Impact The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH GIZ Uzbekistan

In my remarks at the conference “Uzbekistan - Kyrgyzstan: Synergy of Strategic Partnership,” I highlighted the following key points: ✅ Further efforts are needed to strengthen mutual political trust and engage in candid exchanges on existing challenges. ✅ Enhancing regional cooperation, including the effectiveness of consultative meetings and interactions within the “Central Asia plus” formats, is crucial. ✅ Coordinating approaches in trade, economic, transport, energy, ecology, and water management sectors is essential, with a focus on major infrastructure and investment projects. ✅ The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway and the Kamabarata HPP-1 construction have transformative potential for regional development. ✅ Strengthening collaboration in education, science, culture, and tourism will build a robust humanitarian foundation for our strategic partnership. I look forward to continued progress in our bilateral relations. Full text of the speech is available here 👇 https://lnkd.in/dT3ZuP5N

💡 Today, we introduce the first of our four new Ponlok Chomnes Innovation Partners - Analyzing Development Issues Centre (ADIC). The Ponlok Chomnes program is delighted to highlight research to be undertaken by one of our new innovation partners, Analyzing Development Issues Centre. ADIC will conduct research on “Building youth capacity in participatory research to engage in sub-national development planning on safe cross-border migration from Cambodia to Thailand.” The research will be conducted through comprehensive training on migration issues, mock sessions to practice influencing commune councils, and utilising communication materials to advocate for community needs. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that youth play a significant role in local decision-making processes, leading to more inclusive and effective development initiatives. Its significance lies in ADIC's exploration of new approaches to inform local policymakers about pressing issues with an emphasis on sustainable development outcomes. Research has now commenced, stay tuned for more about this interesting new project! 😉 🔗 To learn more about the Ponlok Chomnes Program’s Innovation Partners, please click on this link to our website: https://lnkd.in/dd2RjFVX 📚 Read more about the research report from ADIC during the Ponlok Chomnes phase 1 (2019-2023) through this link: https://lnkd.in/dTr_nwkR The Ponlok Chomnes Innovation Fund is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Australian Embassy, Cambodia) and through The Asia Foundation's Ponlok Chomnes: Data and Dialogue for Development in Cambodia program. #PonlokChomnes #InnovationPartner #KnowledgeSector #PolicyProcess #PolicyDialogue #DiverseEvidence #InclusiveResearch #InclusiveDialogue #EffectiveCommunication

The Sustainable Development Goals Initiative Learning Excursion to Germany has provided me with new insights into how a country like South Africa can improve and fast track its implementation of the NDP Agenda 2030 . The highlight of my trip was the meeting with the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE) , the future looks bright and thank you to GIZ , The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) , The SDGi- Evidence and Data for Policy partner : The Presidency , African Monitor , University of Prertorai and Stellenboch University . Investing on the acceleration of achieving SDG's by 2030 becomes even more important as South Africa continues to struggle with persistent inequalities, poverty and slow economic growth.

🗓️ International Day for South-South Cooperation, 12 September 🌍🤝 This September 12, we celebrate the International Day of South-South Cooperation with the theme: « A Better Tomorrow through South-South Cooperation »🌟. From the Republic of Congo tapping into Brazil's expertise on family farming and school feeding 🍎 toCuba’s role in the fight against Ebola in West Africa, and UNESCO’s efforts to boost teacher capacity in the Pacific Islands 🏝️—these are just a few powerful examples of South-South cooperation at work. What is South-South Cooperation? It’s a collaboration between developing countries 🌍 that fosters solidarity and helps them achieve self-reliance. By sharing knowledge, skills, and resources, countries of the Global South are working together to meet their development goals 🎯 and contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 💡 Key Objectives of South-South Cooperation: 1. Strengthen self-reliance and create local solutions 🛠️. 2. Exchange knowledge and experiences to tackle shared problems 🤝. 3. Support least developed countries, small island nations 🌊, and those affected by natural disasters 🌪️. #SouthSouthCooperation #GlobalDevelopment #UNOSSC #Solidarity #2030Agenda #InternationalCooperation #SustainableDevelopment #TriangularCooperation
