The Legacy of the Audi Silver Arrow A moment to honour a monumental chapter in automotive history—the birth of the "Silver Arrow." Back on May 27, 1934, Audi's precursor, Auto Union, alongside Mercedes-Benz, began a new era in motorsports with the introduction of Germany’s first high-speed racing cars at Berlin’s Avus racetrack. Conceived by the legendary Ferdinand Porsche and developed by the innovative teams at Auto Union, these cars were marvels of their time, featuring rear engines and a groundbreaking design that limited their weight to just 750 kilograms. Lot 83 1979 BMW M1 Artcurial BMW Group BMW M Estimation 500,000 - 600,000 € French title Chassis No WBS00000094301068 - Sold new in France, almost first hand - Rare and powerful model; 66,250 km since new - The symbol of BMW's commitment to motorsport Inspired by the BMW Turbo concept car presented in 1972 and designed by Giugiaro, the BMW M1 is the first to bear the famous "M" of BMW Motorsport. Initially created as a special homologation (in Group 4), it was designed under the responsibility of the motorsport department, at the time headed by Jochen Neerspach. The bodywork was made of fibreglass and had a 3.5-litre six-cylinder mid-engine derived from the CSL coupe versions, with a 24-valve cylinder head and dry sump lubrication. Unveiled at the 1978 Paris Motor Show, it made its appearance as a high-level grand touring machine. This particular M1 was one of the first to have been delivered in France. It was sold by the BMW Pelleras dealership in Toulouse (delivered at the same time as the example of Mr Pelleras himself) and registered on the 5th October 1979 in the name of its first owner who kept it until 2019, when he transferred it to the current owner, a BMW dealer based in the west. The car has a mileage of only 76,560 km. It also includes both its keys and the user manual. After purchasing it, the car went to the dealership's workshop for a full service and had some work done to restore it to its optimal condition. The double-plate clutch was replaced, as well as the shock absorbers, the oil tank, the timing belt, the injectors, the fuel pump and the Pirelli tyres which are identical to the original. The interior was cleaned and restored, so much so that its seats and carpets look like they are in new condition. The car is delivered with all its BMW Toulouse servicing invoices and its original tool kit. This is an example in exceptional original condition and hard to find on the market. 🔲 THE FASTEST EV FROM #PORSCHE, Nürburgring: A pre-series Taycan, made a sensational lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the "NORTH LOOP", with the Porsche development driver #LarsKern. This official lap time is a whopping 26 seconds faster than his last record drive in a Taycan Turbo S Sport sedan equipped with the performance package, back in August 2022. It beats Tesla's Model S Plaid Nürburgring time by 17 seconds! 🔲 President of the #Porsche #TAYCAN line, Kevin Giek: “Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. Lars’ lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife is sensational, putting the Taycan in the same league as electric hypercars. And the impressive thing about it is that over several laps, Lars clocked almost exactly the same time.” 🔲 Lars Kern: “I pushed as hard as I could, but that was really all I could do.” Out of safety reasons, the test car was equipped with the legally prescribed roll cage, along with racing bucket seats. Compared to the 2022 record in a #Taycan Turbo S, the times were much better: the pre-series car was a good 25 km/h faster heading into the Swedish cross. This put the distance between the pre-series Taycan and the current Turbo S at more than 1.3 kilometres – a figure that illustrates the leap in performance achieved on the 20.8 km course in Germany’s Eifel region. Visually, the Taycan shows a few aerodynamic changes. At the front is a completely new apron with side flaps and in the bach is a large, fixed spoiler. Built in collaboration between Tom Walkinshaw Racing and JaguarSport, the mission was to create a modernized road-going version of the classic Jaguar Le Mans cars of the 60s. It was first introduced with a V12 at its core. But before production, new legislations & emissions standards pushed the team to make big changes (among other reasons), most notably swapping out the V12 for a turbocharged V6. They decided to take note of the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 when considering the change. Two cars powered by lightweight, compact engines. The change, however, didn't stop the XJ220 from performing at the top of the game for a short period of time. Making 542hp, it not only hit 217.1mph to set the production car top speed record at the time, but it also set a production car record on the Nurburgring as well. Shortlived records, but impressive nonetheless. Only 281 examples were made, which was far less than Jaguar had initially planned. These days though, those numbers make it a very desirable collectors car, and thus fetch solid figures when they go up for sale. But before production, new legislation and emissions standards forced the team to make big changes (among other reasons), specifically swapping the V12 for a turbocharged V6. They decided to take note of the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 when considering the change. Two cars powered by lightweight, compact engines. However, the change didn't stop the XJ220 from performing at the top of the game for a short time. Making 542 hp, not only did it reach 137.1 mph to set the production car top speed record at the time, but it also set a production car record at the Nurburgring as well. Short-lived records, but impressive nonetheless. Only 275 examples were given, which was far fewer than Jaguar had originally planned.
