Hi LinkedIn Family! This post is going to be a little different... My first "first day" was one of the hardest days of my career. I remember sitting at my desk and feeling like I was just a character in costume, pretending to be a professional. I was a college kid with no experience or formal education in the field I was entering into. Why am I in this position? How can I deserve to be in this position? Can I really be what they think I am? I spent every day trying to prove that I was the person for the role, until I wasn't. Imposter Syndrome messed with my mental state so badly, I remember thinking, "Maybe I really didn't deserve the opportunity in the first place." That was almost 2 years ago. I look back and see how much that feeling and fear had held me back. I can now proudly say that I am who I am. I am a young professional. I am a learner. I am a leader. I am an overcomer. Recently, I spoke about the importance of post mortems. Today, after a little over a month at lempire, I have the opportunity to write my first one. After getting comfortable, I made a mistake by modifying a part of the code that was still a bit of a mystery to me. The result? 634 lead activities impacted. Thankfully, we were able to patch the data, so no lasting damage was done. What truly made a difference in this experience was the support from my manager and team lead. Their guidance and understanding turned this first “sting” into a valuable learning opportunity. Knowing I had their backing helped me face this challenge with resilience and confidence. This will likely be my first mistake at lempire, but certainly not my last. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn, and it’s by falling that we rise stronger. I’ll be sharing more details soon about this experience and the lessons I’ve learned from it. Mistakes are just steps along the path to growth.
