The A-10 Thunderbolt II, also known as the Warthog, is a close air support aircraft designed for interdiction, Forward Air Controller-Airborne (FAC-A), Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR), and Strike Control and Reconnaissance missions. It is a specialized CAS aircraft with a 281-aircraft fleet that is almost evenly divided between active-duty and reserve component units. Allow me to introduce you to FRED. Not a person by the way, but an aircraft. 😃 The Lockheed C-5 Galaxy! Aptly nicknamed "F---ing Ridiculous Economic/Environmental Disaster," (FRED) due to its high operational costs compared to other heavy transport aircraft. The Lockheed C-5 Galaxy is the largest military aircraft used by the United States Air Force. Known for its impressive capabilities, the C-5 can carry oversized cargo, including military vehicles, helicopters, and large equipment, with a maximum payload of about 140 tons. It so has an impressive range of approximately 5,500 miles without refueling, allowing it to support global military operations. The aircraft features a unique nose that can be raised to facilitate "drive-on/drive-off" loading and uploading. Additionally, the C-5's advanced avionics and refueling capabilities in flight further extend its versatility and reach. A Rocket Assisted Zero-Length Launch System (RZL) is a method used to launch aircraft, particularly military fighter jets, without the need for a traditional runway. In this system, rockets are attached to the aircraft, providing the necessary thrust for takeoff. The launch takes place from a specially designed platform, allowing the aircraft to take off vertically or with an extremely short ground roll. On May 29, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced that the U.S. Department of State has approved a possible sale of UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters to Sweden and Austria. Sweden plans to purchase 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, 30 T700-GE-701D engines (24 installed and 6 spare), and 17 AN/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning Systems (CMWS). Austria has received approval to purchase 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, 26 T700-GE-701D engines, 15 AN/AAR-57 Counter Missile Warning Systems (CMWS), and 30 H-764U Embedded Global Positioning Systems with Inertial Navigation (EGI) with country-unique selective availability anti-spoofing modules or Future M-Code replacements. The Black Hawk helicopters are manufactured by Sikorsky, a subsidiary of the American defence giant Lockheed Martin. B-52, F-117, F-16s. In the past, military aircraft were categorized as either fighters or bombers. Now, many have dual roles. Strike aircraft are designed for both attack and air superiority. Attack aircraft, like the Warthog, conduct operations targeting the surface and generally not equipped for air-to-air combat. There's overlap in aircraft like the F/A-18 Super Hornet. Fighter aircraft can engage ground targets, but they are equipped with air-to-air weapons and can fly farther, faster and at higher altitudes than strike aircraft.
