In a landmark report unveiled few days ago on the State of the World's Migratory Species, the United Nations disclosed the alarming plight of Earth's long-distance travelers. Out of the 1,189 species safeguarded under the U.N. global treaty for migratory species, one in five faces extinction, with 44% experiencing dwindling populations. Additionally, their vital habitats are deteriorating due to human activity, as 58% of monitored sites crucial for migratory species are subjected to unsustainable levels of human pressure. Among numerous factors, billions of tons of plastic waste pose a threat to our oceans, rivers, and land, placing wildlife and ecosystems at risk. We acknowledge this issue because it aligns with our mission. We have the opportunity to enhance our environment and encourage positive change by promoting recycling through incentives. Join us in safeguarding our planet's future. Together, we can make a difference. #ECOTERRA #actnow

In 2025, the international #ocean community will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Washington Declaration and the inception of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities. This significant milestone coincides with the organization of #UNOC3. This Issue Brief, and the Note supporting it (available here: https://lnkd.in/dqheVPGB), argue that this juncture offers a timely opportunity for the global community to initiate a new phase in combating land-based pollution. To that end, it calls for the launch of a coalition of like-minded countries wishing to reinvigorate, support and/or create new global and/or regional mechanisms that address land-based pollution. Happy Environment Day! World Environment Day, held annually on 5 June, brings together millions of people from across the globe, engaging them in the effort to protect and restore the Earth. This year marks the event’s 50th anniversary. This year’s campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” Successful land restoration requires an approach that uses knowledge, drive and ambition across all generations. Everybody alive now is part of a generation that is the first to witness the devastating effects of environmental degradation and the last to take measures to counter it and be on track to achieving global goals on climate and biodiversity. We can be the generation that finally makes peace with land. We can be #GenerationRestoration.
