Effective #communityengagement in #healthcare is not just a desirable aspect; it is a fundamental pillar underpinning any healthcare system's success. Community engagement brings together #healthcareproviders, community organizations, and individuals to collaborate, share knowledge, and work collectively toward improving #healthoutcomes. It recognizes the importance of involving community members in decision-making processes, program development, and service delivery. Effective #communityengagement ensures that healthcare services are tailored to meet the unique requirements of the population they serve by fostering open lines of communication, building trust, and addressing community needs and concerns. We, at patientOne, believe in empowering individuals to become active agents in their own healthcare journey, leading to increased #healthliteracy, better adherence to treatment plans, and improved overall #well-being. We believe that developing a #supportivecare model that supports #publichealth initiatives and encourages community engagement is critical to creating healthy individuals and communities. A huge thank you to @LindaMonckton, @DesiGradinarova & the rest of the team behind the very insightful & terrific 2-day #Heritage & #Wellbeing Conference @DelapreAbbey. It has been fantastic to be able to come together with so many others, from across the UK, who have years of experience delivering & evaluating incredibly impactful #mentalhealth & wellbeing support programmes & resources to share the benefits & challenges. There was enormous truth & energy in the beautiful, historic rooms hosting a breadth of presentations & workshops. In the spirit of openness, I spoke to many who, like me, are getting weary of trying hard to get the significant positive changes to the individual, & community, through these projects - now in their 100s - be embedded & mainstreamed within the modern bio-psycho-social approach to patient referral plans & to the support packages of those living with long-term conditions. The move from the old #biomedical to new bio-psycho-social model insists on an #transdisciplinerary & #interprofessional approach. There is a sense that many of the currently available validated measurements for assessing health improvement are not quite the right fit for co-created health creation projects in delivery through #heritage & #communitycare partnerships. It was freely acknowledged that the term heritage & the perceptions many have of the heritage sector can be a barrier - so with that acknowledgment, what further actions can we take to change those perceptions? If individuals feel heritage is ‘not for them’ regarding education, skills development or their leisure time, why would we believe they would think any differently when it comes to their health & wellbeing. That work, by its very nature, has to be through co-design, where those who don’t engage are, in fact, our experts in engagement. The conference was top for sharing lessons learned, celebrating health improvement, uniteing a growing community of impactful practice, & acknowledging there is still much to be done - together

At the David Development Foundation, we believe that a community’s health is its greatest wealth. That’s why we go beyond just addressing immediate needs; we strive to cultivate a culture of wellness within the communities we serve. Why is a healthy community essential? 1. Did you or the kids, or a friend or rellie, spend any time burning some energy at a Council-provided rec centre this week? If the answer is yes, it’s very likely these sweaty, usually fun-filled exertions also helped reduce the burden of health costs in your community. I often participate in a dance class or swim laps at Council-provided recreation centres, and have done so for years, along with my children. I knew how good it made us feel, but I hadn't considered the knock-on effect community-wide. When I learned how the motivated members at my local rec centre, Cockburn ARC, saved Cockburn and the wider community almost $30m in health costs across the 2021-22 and 2022-23 financial years, I was excited to share a success story that could easily have its own successful iterations right around the nation. Most of the cost savings were in the areas of mental health, improved educational outcomes, health costs and dementia prevention, but this social value also represented reductions in cardiovascular disease and cancer. Statistical evidence provided to Cockburn ARC by data intelligence experts ActiveXchange APAC helped shine an undeniable light on the measurable outcomes of the aquatic and recreation centre’s regular membership. Not only does regular exercise at your shire’s local rec centre get those feel-good neurotransmitters pumping, it saves your community money by making it healthier, which in turn prevents spending on healthcare. That’s a no-brainer! I’m off for a swim! City of Cockburn Read the full article in Council Magazine: https://bit.ly/3USnbPn

So what could a recession-proof, sustainable mixed-use property look like? Imagine a cluster of medical service buildings alongside restaurants, lodging, apartments, entertainment, retail and consumer services. Health care and wellness facilities can be more accessible - sustainable, and complement and promote the economic development of our towns and cities while fostering a convenient and positive consumer experience. How we plan and develop our future healthcare infrastructure is being transformed with the use of mixed use development strategies'. The era of monumental stand alone health care facilities with sprawling isolated campuses surrounded by a sea of parking is coming to an end because they are not consumer-friendly and tend to be an unpleasant experience. The demand for mixed-use medical facilities focused on health and wellness - serving both aging and health-conscious younger consumers is changing the way we plan and develop our hospital campuses. Both employees and visitors alike can benefit from the convenience of combining medical and wellness facilities with everyday lifestyle activities - conveniently located within short walking distance from healthy meals, and other consumer activates. After all the consumer who goes to the doctor is the same consumer who shops, eats and seeks a positive lifestyle experience. Consumers have pivoted their mindset from “experiencing stuff” to “experiencing wellness,” and health system executives and community leaders are respond with new health and wellness anchored mixed use development strategies that provide access to state-of-the-art healthcare services by using public-private infrastructure partnerships that bring economic viability and make it possible to underwrite new state-of-the-art healthcare facilities in both rural and underserved communities. to learn more contact Chris Kay @ Ckay@hirleadership.org.
