For business owners, few things are as inspiring as being surrounded by innovators eager to transform big ideas into thriving export ventures across southeast Asia. Yesterday, we had the privilege of welcoming more than 80 local businesses, industry professionals, and government representatives to Cockburn Global. It was a day full of meaningful conversations, new connections, and valuable insights. From exchanging business cards to sharing export tips, one thing was clear, Cockburn businesses are eager to tap into the expanding markets of Indonesia, Vietnam, and Singapore. We can’t wait to see what exciting collaborations emerge in the coming months. A huge thank you to our incredible speakers and MC Phil Turtle for generously sharing their knowledge and expertise: - Leonard Collard set the tone with a powerful Welcome to Country. - Mayor Logan Howlett extended a warm welcome to all. - David Scaife MLA updated us on the West Australian context for growth and investment. - We were honoured to hear from Ibu Listiana Operananta, Consul General of Indonesia; Mrs. Thanh Ha Nguyen, Consul General of Vietnam; and Mr. Chun Long Au, Deputy High Commissioner of Singapore. Our business owners left with practical insights from industry experts on building export success. Here are some of the key tips: - Tailor your approach: ASEAN isn’t one big market, each country has unique ways of doing business (Arnold Jorge, Export Council of Australia). - Think long-term: To reach the prize you need to be open to change, agile and innovative (Greg Riebe, Triangle Equity Partners). - Use available financial resources: Find support partners, grant providers and lenders who can assist with loans, bonds, and guarantees (Brad Gosling, Export Finance Australia). - Boost productivity through exports: Exporters are 64% more productive and generated 43% higher wages than non-exporters (Jane Caforio, Austrade). - Do your research: From trade agreements to IP protection, and cultural etiquette your market research is crucial (Dr. Sandy Chong, Jennifer Mathews, David Morgan, Cory Zachrisson, Shaun Hack). Throughout the day, attendees exchanged ideas, forged new contacts, and enjoyed some delicious Asian-inspired food. A special thank you to Tim Kelly for creating a beautiful atmosphere with his didgeridoo performance during lunch. With such diverse minds in the room, we’re excited to see how today’s connections develop into meaningful partnerships that drive growth for local businesses. Cockburn Global 2024 was just the beginning, here’s to building the future of international trade together!
