Did you know that town planners were once celebrated Olympians? 🏅 From 1928 to 1948, they were awarded Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals for their contributions to urban development in the lead-up to the Games. They were recognised under the architectural design category, showcasing their pivotal role in shaping stadiums, sports fields, and training centres. Today, town planning stands as a distinct discipline, focusing on creating sustainable, functional, and beautiful spaces for communities. Emerald Built Environments recently supported the ownership team of the historic Rhodes Mansion on Franklin Avenue as it transformed into a 34-unit apartment building. #HistoricBuilding #Sustainability

// ⚡ Clash of Urban Visions: ‘Brisbane Bold 2032’ Sparks Dialogue on Olympic Aspirations 🔥 Architectural firm Archipelago has unveiled an ambitious proposal for a colossal Olympic Park-inspired precinct at Victoria Park in Brisbane, aptly named “Brisbane Bold 2032”. The firm has set its sights on becoming an integral part of the ongoing 60-day review of the 2032 Olympic infrastructure, spearheaded by the esteemed former Lord Mayor Graham Quirk. This transformative plan seeks to supersede the initial blueprints for the Gabba Stadium, originally earmarked as the primary venue for the games, alongside the Brisbane Live Arena planned for construction at Roma Street. Instead, the forward-thinking proposal envisions a metamorphosis of Victoria Park, positioned 1.5km north of the CBD, into a world-class sporting, events, and knowledge precinct. The Brisbane Lions, the current tenants at the Gabba Stadium, have also rallied behind this ground-breaking plan. 🏟 However, the Brisbane City Council, aligning with Mayor Adrian Schrinner's current vision, is steadfast in its commitment to metamorphose Victoria Park/Barrambin into a natural haven—a retreat and urban park designed for adventure, discovery, and reconnection. 🏞 🏗 In the ever-evolving landscape of construction costs, the harsh reality is that returning to pre-COVID levels seems increasingly unlikely. 🚍Watch this video to find out how the Clontarf to City Centre Cycle and Bus Priority Project is transforming Dublin’s North East Inner City through the provision of segregated cycling facilities and bus priority infrastructure.🚴 The €62m scheme has been described by cycling campaigners as "matching up to cycling design standards seen in pioneering countries, such as Denmark and the Netherlands". 🏢 A View from Urban Regeneration The #ULIEuropeConference is always a great opportunity not only to meet the entire industry—from investors and developers to architects and public officials—but also to immerse yourself in so many fascinating environments. This year in beautiful Milan COIMA showed us the future of a great urban regeneration project, #ScalodiPortaRomana. This is a truly unique situation where the #OlympicVillage for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics will be given back to the community by being transformed into the largest student residence in Italy. And this is only the beginning. The Urban Regeneration Tour continued with Hines Italy who showed us their ongoing restoration and renovation of the iconic #TorreVelasca, a monumental skyscraper built in the 1950s, or #CorsoItalia23 by PIMCO Prime Real Estate, another fascinating adaptive reuse of the architectural complex in Milan originally designed in 1958. This is exactly what we always prefer—a constant dialogue between old and new, between history and the future. No destruction, just rethink and reuse. 👷 Finally, we were part of the ULI Forum: Social Value in Residential where Ondrej Svancara and Pavel Hruza shared the studio's insights and ideas about fair and inclusive housing in the future.
