I am incredibly honored to chair Planned Parenthood of Michigan's Detroit Choice Event this year. I am posting this on LinkedIn, a business site, because reproductive health and access to contraception are business issues. It is crucial to educate children and adolescents about reproductive health, including family planning, at an early stage to empower them to make informed decisions. In our country, there are approximately 2.2 million unsafe abortions annually, reproductive health discussions are often taboo, child marriage and abuse are prevalent, maternal mortality rates are high, and gender-based violence is widespread. Failing to provide adequate education to our youth can have detrimental effects. Implementing a Life Skills Based Education (LSBE) program that includes reproductive health information and abuse prevention is essential. These messages should be adapted to be culturally sensitive. Creating safe spaces for children to openly discuss these topics is vital. Let's not harm them by withholding important information.

The Standing Committee on Health, Equity, and Society is examining the health, social, and economic implications of access to reproductive health care in the United States and globally. Part of this work includes an "After Roe" webinar series. Past and upcoming topics include, examining the effects following the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization on contraception issues, violence against healthcare professionals providing reproductive care, legal strategies at the state level, Challenges in the Provision of Lifesaving Care, and Physician Perspectives and Workforce Implications.
