Join us for a webinar showcasing selected forestry sector business opportunities in Zambia on Tuesday 21st November 2023 from 10:00 to 11:30. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland has through the AGS Programme (Accelerated Growth for SMEs in Zambia in partnership with Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development) conducted a study on forestry sector opportunities in Zambia. This business opportunity publication will be launched on the 21st of November 2023 in a webinar. The online event will be joined by the Minister of Green Economy and Environment of the Republic of Zambia, Hon. Collins Nzovu. Zambia’s forestry sector presents significant and exciting business opportunities for growth and partnership. The formal and informal forestry sectors account for an estimated 5.2% of Zambia’s GDP, which in monetary terms amounts to an estimated € 1.3 billion. With 49 million hectares of natural forest and woodlands, around 61,000 hectares of plantations, and a small but established formal forestry sector, the sector presents a number of untapped business opportunities. This study identified six major opportunities of an estimated combined value of over 4 billion Euros: carbon offsets, management of forest resources, non-forest timber products, wooden poles, furniture, paper and pulp, as well as packaging. Register for the webinar by 17.11.2023 through the link below: https://lnkd.in/dMW-JzpE

This roadmap is critically essential for the rule of thumb of carbon trading in the forestry sector, i.e. the criteria and requirements for related entities interested in participating in this market and types of collaboration in international carbon trading in the forestry sector.

Something the forestry industry has been all too aware of for a good number of years. There is an aging demographic in staff engaged in the industry and it is clear that there will be a shortfall in candidates to fill roles that are going to be left vacant, not to mention any additional roles that may arise. There needs to be a concerted effort to inform the younger population that it can be a rewarding and worthwhile career with good prospects.
