News in advancements in IBD Care! A recent study emphasizes the importance of testing for fecal Calprotectin to identify levels of gut inflammation levels and predict long-term disease outcomes. Calpro Products Highlighted: This study relied on the Calpro Easy Extract and CalproLab ELISA to extract and analyze stool samples for fecal calprotectin (fCal). This accurate assessment aids in understanding inflammatory activity within the gut. This study highlights the potential of fCal and fecal myeloperoxidase (fMPO) as complementary tools for assessing disease during regular clinical care. Did you know? Pompe disease is a severe genetic disorder. Even if treated, those with infant-onset Pompe rarely survive beyond early childhood. The current standard treatment, enzyme replacement therapy (ERT), can extend life expectancy into adolescence. However, ERT has significant shortcomings. It does not target skeletal muscle effectively, leading to progressive muscle weakness and respiratory issues over time. Moreover, ERT requires lifelong bi-weekly infusions, which can be burdensome for patients and families.   There is an urgent unmet need for more efficient therapies that can provide better disease management, improve quality of life, and extend survival. Yet another study adding to our COPD experience spanning over 10 years! These findings provide context for upcoming results from FOOTPRINTS®, which aims to establish correlations between biomarkers and disease progression in a representative COPD population. FOOTPRINTS® is a prospective, longitudinal, 3-year study in ex-smokers with mild-to-severe COPD. It focuses on assessing the association between biomarkers of inflammation/lung tissue destruction and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) severity and progression. RHEUMATOID LUNG DISEASE: 👉 ▪️RA-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD). ▪️Pleural disease (pleural thickening/effusions). ▪️Airway disease (Both upper & lower airway). ▪️Rheumatoid nodules ▪️Drug-induced lung toxicity (i.e., Methotrexate-induced lung injury) ▪️Fibro-bullous disease ▪️Thoracic cage immobility ▪️Venous thromboembolic disease ▪️Vasculitis ▪️Pneumonia. 👉RHEUMATOID EFFUSION: ▪️WCC <5000/mm3 ▪️Fluid glucose <60 mg/Dl ▪️Pleural fluid to serum glucose ratio < 0.5 ▪️pH < 7.3 ▪️High pleural LDH level (ie, > 700 IU/L) ▪️Cytology: Slender or elongated multi-nucleated macrophages, round giant multi-nucleated macrophages, and necrotic background debris. 👉Pulmonary function testing in ILD (PFT): ▪️Reduced VC, lung volumes, & DLCO. ▪️Oxygen desaturation during exercise. ▪️Restrictive abnormalities common (poor muscle strength or kyphosis due to osteoporosis rather than ILD).

Patient-reported symptoms are associated with inflammation biomarkers in many chronic diseases. In this study that was recently published by KIDNEY360, we examined associations of inflammation biomarkers with pain, fatigue, and depression in patients with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) and the effects of a Technology-Assisted stepped Collaborative Care (TĀCcare) intervention on these biomarkers. https://lnkd.in/e5i9h5NS
