Marketing #halal food products as healthy and safe will not only appeal to Chinese Muslims but also to the broader consumer market as well, according to the speakers at the panel discussion at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (#MIHAS) 2024. But is the world’s second-largest economy ready to take on this role? “With the advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, economic and trade cooperation between China and Islamic countries has deepened, significantly increasing the demand for halal food exports,” says @Abdul Rahim Albert Hsiu, managing director of ARA Halal Certification Services Centre, which helped 240 companies in China secure halal certification in 2024. The halal industry's expansion into sectors such as food, beverages, and tourism has been evident in recent years, supported by Malaysia's Halal Development Corporation Bhd (HDC). HDC forecasts a 15% increase in halal product exports this year, building on the robust performance of 2022, where exports reached RM59 billion, a notable 63% surge from 2021. Investments in halal industrial areas have been substantial, totaling RM16.4 billion by the end of 2023, with an additional RM600 million expected this year. These figures underscore the global appeal of Malaysian halal products, emphasizing their quality, cleanliness, and authenticity. In anticipation of this growth, Qew Group Berhad enters the halal industry by establishing a Digital Asean Smart Halal Industrial Park in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah.
