“I am designed to be recycled” Reuse and recycling of food packaging is a hot topic in the global food industry. Due to implementation of EPR schemes on packaging, the choice of packaging material has become a differentiator in the marketplace. Having completed more than 52 projects with customers and held 29 sessions of Packaging School sessions during 2023, we see an increasing willingness to push for more circular food packaging solutions. The Bistro™ Cold rPET range is a great example of a circular packaging solution, which is designed for easy sorting and recycling. The range is produced in clear recycled PET, which is a mono-material containing minimum 85% recycled material. The range consists of 3 trays and 1 lid. In the bottom of the tray, it is stated “I am designed to be recycled”, which supports the communication towards the end-user. The Bistro™ Cold rPET range is ideal for delicatessen portion sizes, fresh cut fruits or salads and other cold, ready-to-eat meals and servings perfect for summer. Recognising the International Day of Food Loss & Waste Observing the FAO International day of awareness of Food Loss & Waste also highlights the important role that packaging, if designed intuitively, can play in minimising food loss & waste across a value chain. Whilst the primary function of packaging has always been to protect, contain, preserve and transport a product from paddock to plate, the function of intuitive Save Food Packaging Design to minimise food loss and waste is only now being discussed across the globe. By definition Save Food Packaging is designed to minimise or prevent food waste from paddock to plate using innovative and intuitive design features that can contain & protect, preserve, extend shelf life, easily open and reseal, provide consumer convenience and portion control; all the while meeting global sustainable packaging targets. (Francis, C., Kelton, N., Ryder, M., Lowenstern, B. Lockrey, S., Verghese, K) Without adequate design features and packaging that is fit-for-purpose, food can potentially be wasted all the way through the value chain to the household. The costs of such waste can be significant for a business and leaves an indelible footprint on the environment. By modifying packaging design at the start and ensuring that the world-first Save Food Packaging design guidelines are followed in the New Product Development process, food loss and waste can be minimised across a value chain. The intersection between innovative and intuitive Save Food Packaging design and food loss & waste needs to be discussed more openly in the industry across the globe. Everyone has a role to play. #fao #unido #savefoodorg #interpack #worldpackagingorganisation #australianinstituteofpackaging #rmit #wageningen #packagaingthatsavesfood #savefoodpackagingdesign #flwday #flwday2024

Food supply chain reforms for environmental protection extend beyond simply implementing a Circular Economy approach focused on maximizing production and recycling! For Example, using juicer machines at a restaurant significantly benefits the environment and reduces waste. By using fresh fruits and vegetables, restaurants can cut down on packaging waste associated with industrial juice products, contributing to #EnvironmentalProtection and #ClimateChange goals. Local sourcing of produce further reduces the carbon footprint by minimizing transportation distances, supporting #Sustainability and #EcoFriendly practices. These machines also enhance #InventoryManagement efficiency. Fresh produce can be juiced as needed, reducing spoilage and waste. Restaurants can avoid the need for large storage spaces for packaged juices, lessening both physical and financial burdens. Local sourcing ensures a steady supply of fresh fruits, reducing transportation costs and allowing for creative menu planning based on seasonal availability. In terms of #CostControl, while the initial investment in juicer machines might be high, the long-term savings are significant. Fresh fruits and vegetables are often cheaper per serving compared to premium industrial juices, leading to reduced costs over time. This approach supports a sustainable operation, aligning with environmental goals and enhancing the restaurant's efficiency and profitability. #ReduceWaste #LocalSourcing #SustainableBusiness #supplychains #farmtoforkstrategy #greendeal United Nations European Commission European Parliament European Environment Agency United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica

🌿 #PlasticFreeJuly Tip #2: Go Green with Eco-Friendly Catering! 🥗🍴♻️ At Green On Set, we choose catering services that use compostable or reusable containers. We avoid single-use plastic cutlery and plates, opting for biodegradable or reusable alternatives instead. Did you know that compostable containers can break down in as little as 90 days, compared to hundreds of years for plastic? At the end of last year, we worked on a series where catering used ceramic plates and metal cutlery for the entire production. We loved not only the fact that there was no plastic used, but also the fact that this sort of lunch arrangement makes you sit down and actually take a break and enjoy the flavours, rather than eat your food on the go. So join us in making a difference—one meal at a time! 🌿 #Sustainability #GreenOnSet #EcoFriendlyCatering #PlasticFree #FilmSetSustainability

🍏 Big changes are coming to the fruit and veg aisle! Soon, your fresh produce will be free from single-use plastics 🥳 The EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is designed to develop a sustainable circular economy for packaging across Europe and reduce waste and pollution from packaging materials. One way PPWR will reduce plastic waste is by banning specific packaging, including: 🍎 Plastic packaging for fruit and vegetables. 🛍️ Plastic packaging used to group single-use packages. 🧴 Small cosmetic and toiletry products used in the accommodation sector. 🛒 Very lightweight (non-compostable) plastic bags. 🍶 Plastic packaging condiments, sauces, and other small packaging formats within the Hotel, Restaurant, and Café/Catering sector (HORECA). We've compiled a list of 12 key points from the new rules and what they will mean. Read more on our site website 👇 https://lnkd.in/eXEGETX8
