⭐ Pork and poultry are #Chile's fourth largest food export sector⭐ IGNACIO FERNANDEZ , General Director of ProChile, attended the Annual Assembly of the #Chilean #Meat Exporters Association, ChileCarne, held at the San Pedro Vineyard in Requínoa, O'Higgins Region, last Thursday. #Pork and #poultry has become Chile's fourth largest food export sector after salmon, fresh fruit and wine, and represent 87% of Chile' s total meat exports. The meeting reviewed the main actions carried out by the association during 2023 and discussed the challenges and opportunities for the industry in the coming years, highlighting the efforts made to keep Chile free of diseases that could affect production and trade, increasing bio security measures and thus helping to better face the uncertain global scenario and the opening of new markets. "Strengthening the opening of markets is key to maintaining the sector's competitiveness. Chile's ratification of the free trade agreement with the European Union is one of the priorities for the sector," said Juan Carlos Domínguez, Executive President of ChileCarne. In 2023, US$1,091 million was exported in #pork, #chicken and #turkey meat, equivalent to 424 thousand tons and representing 87% of Chile's meat exports that year. Ignacio Fernández, Director of ProChile emphasized, "We are niche in these sectors, which means that the product we sell is of very good quality, traceable, with top-level production and that is internationally recognized." Producing and exporting companies gave their impressions among them @Álvaro Ortiz , industrial manager of Agrosuper, Jaime Bascunan general manager of AASA Lo Valledor AASA, Guillermo García González from Coexca S.A., Pablo Espinosa Lynch, general manager of @Maxagro and Chile Origen Consciente, which is a very important platform that covers everything from labor to the environment. The sector has the support of institutions such as Agricultural and Livestock Service of Chile (SAG), Oficina de Estudios y Políticas Agrarias Odepa and #ProChile. European Union pork production is shrinking. Do you agree that the time is now for U.S. pork producers to focus on Europe? Think about it: - European pork producers may not be able to meet European demand due to stricter regulations. - Like all consumers, European consumers want high-quality, sustainably produced meat. - There's a growing gap in Europe that U.S. pork can fill. As Dan Halstrom, President and CEO of the U.S. Meat Export Federation, mentioned at SIAL Paris, this is a golden opportunity. But here's the challenge: Are we ready to meet Europe's expectations? Here's the truth: Europe's market is within reach—but only if we adapt. Do U.S. pork producers have the ability to align with European standards on sustainability and animal welfare? Organizations like the National Pork Producers Council and the National Pork Board are likely key to setting the stage for this transformation. Only then can we unlock this massive market. Remember: - Embrace sustainable and ethical farming practices. - Obtain necessary certifications to meet EU compliance. - Align our marketing messages with European values. Let's turn this challenge into an opportunity and bring U.S. pork to European tables! Thanks National Hog Farmer, for sharing this article. Do U.S. pork producers have the ability to adapt to meet European market demands? Share your thoughts below! #Agriculture #InternationalTrade #Sustainability #FoodIndustry #Export

In an increasingly volatile world it is important to understand the vulnerabilities of the EU food system. The EU food system relies on imports of products ranging from fertilisers to soya beans for the livestock feed industry. This report for the European Parliament, carried out with our friends at Areté, identifies notable cases of input import dependency. It also describes the tools to secure those inputs to make the EU less dependent on foreign suppliers. It highlights appropriate measures to increase the EU food system’s resilience to disruptions in trade flows and price increases of imported inputs. #europeanparliament #foodsecurity #spglobal #arete https://lnkd.in/ejU4_wuy

It will be prohibited to import a range of fruits and vegetables from Russia and Belarus into #Latvia. This is due to the regulations adopted by the government on Tuesday, March 5, which determine certain products that will not be allowed into #Latvia from Russia and Belarus. The ban on imports of the products in question will come into force as early as Friday, March 8. The import ban applies to root vegetables, regular vegetables, legumes, nuts, fruits, grains, flour, cakes and pellets for animal feed, t grape residues, plant materials and vegetable waste, residues, by-products, and articles for use in animal feed. The annotation of the regulations states that Latvia, as a Russian border state, is trying to achieve the earliest possible severance of economic ties with the aggressor state, and Latvia's initiative to ban imports of agricultural and feed products from Russia and Belarus, as well as from other third countries, if the products in question are Russian or Belarusian, is an additional element of the common European Union sanctions policy. "So far, choice and ethical behavior have been left to businesses, but about national security aspects, behavior based on moral considerations must be determined at the national level. Farmers have publicly expressed their displeasure with the continuation of Latvia's relationship with the aggressor state and its desire to end any relationship with it, including the use of its products in human and animal consumption,” the regulations note reads. The provisions on prohibited products will enter into force on March 8 2024. According to the Food and Veterinary Service, a total of 16 companies imported feed products, including cereals, and feed materials into Latvia. Of these, nine are companies whose activities are related to logistics provision, and the activities of seven are related to wholesale and production of certain products - agricultural production, animal feed production. https://lnkd.in/gtMe8tQM
