This project was extra special to work on; I am proud to be a part of it! Did you know that in Canada, women make up only 12% of the construction workforce, and a mere 5% of workers on site? CAWIC - Canadian Association of Women in Construction is working hard to change the narrative and show women that they too can build a long-lasting and fulfilling career in the construction sector.
You can read the first issue of WOMEN Building Canada on CAWIC's website, here: https://lnkd.in/gyZp9_Vd
One of my favourite articles in this issue features Jamie McMillan, an ironworker and industry advocate who travels North America showcasing trades to youth. Read about the work she's doing starting on page 14. Be sure to visit https://lnkd.in/gdXrdvyx to learn more.
Thank you Andrea Janzen from Ambition Theory and Kristen Hallberg, PMP, from United Rentals, for sharing their expertise and great research about the role women currently play in construction, and how to build a more inclusive construction sector now and into the future.
In "I Helped Build That" Leah Traviss, from MARANT Construction, Jamie McMillan, and Susan Carey, from BuildSafe - Construction Safety Services Inc., talk about opportunities, the ways to advance, and the sense of accomplishment felt when building something from nothing.
The last feature in this first issue discusses the importance of building diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). In a roundtable discussion, Susan Carey; Elizabeth Driscoll, C.E.T from Design Concrete; Lisa Laronde, CPA, from RSG International and President of CAWIC; Alessandra Valerio, B.Arch, PMP, from UL Solutions; and Jamie West, from Peninsula Construction and RoadBlock Solutions, shared their experiences and expertise on this issue.
Shoutout to publisher Jessica Potter, graphic designer Kayti Taylor, and editorial advisor Kristina Fixter, all of whom were instrumental in creating a WOW first issue.
If you're interested in showcasing your services, products, and expertise in the Fall 2024 issue, which will be ready in time to be at CAWIC's first-ever National Conference in September, reach out to me to request a media kit!
