When we start to celebrate well-being as a cutting-edge trend in elite sport today, it's interesting to appreciate the context of this evolution within a broader timeline of well-being in sports. Going back to the late 20th century, holistic approaches began to take root, recognizing the interconnectedness of physical and mental well-being. From that point forward, a trajectory was set in motion towards the contemporary trends we witness today: - Psychological and mental aspects (Mid-20th Century) - Integration of holistic approaches across the sport science sport medicine disciplines (Late 20th Century - Early 21st Century) - Incorporation of technological advances and data analytics (21st Century) - Cultural shift and awareness towards mental health (in recent years) - Inclusion of mindfulness and well-being programs (current trends) These early seeds have grown into a nuanced comprehension of athlete well-being, beyond mere performance optimization to encompass the entirety of an athlete's experience. Loughborough Sport and the Wellbeing Science Institute are leading the way having recently hosted the World-Class Athlete Well-being conference. They are demonstrating a commitment to refining our understanding of what it means to thrive in elite sports. #wellbeing #elitesport

Hi everyone! Mark Maxfield here, CEO of The Cottages Assisted Living & Memory Care. Today’s video I’m in a little different spot that what you’re used to seeing. This is the other half of my office. Once in a while I get away from my desk and I sit in this chair. I call this my thinking chair. I sit here and think about my business, my employees, our residents, and I think about ways to make the company better. My message for leaders this month is to find some place where you can get away from the distraction of your computer, desk, phone, everything. That may mean going for a walk or sitting in your car. It doesn’t matter what or where it is, just do something different. Almost all my good ideas for my company have come from this chair. Admittedly I used to feel guilty about sitting here. I grew up working really hard, so sitting in a comfortable chair and feeling like I’m doing nothing took me a while to get use to because I know all of my team members are out there working hard. My job as CEO is to create and lead, and the only way you can do that is with fresh, innovative ideas. So, all my ideas for better incentives and pay have come from this chair. If my team knew that they’d hope I sat in this chair more often. So, find a place where you can relax. A place where it’s quiet, and you can think about your people and organization. Think about how you can have a better more positive impact.
