Cementing Smart Solutions 💡 One of the cement plants we collaborate with demonstrates how innovative use of slag can transform not only production processes but also sustainability metrics. This plant, constructed by a company with expertise in large-scale slag recycling, has embedded circular economy principles into its operations from the outset. By incorporating 30% mixed slag sourced from an old slag dump into its cement production, the plant has achieved remarkable results. Impact at a Glance: 👉 Carbon Footprint Reduction: By integrating slag into the cement mix, the plant has cut its CO₂ emissions by 20%—a significant step toward decarbonization in an energy-intensive industry. 👉 Waste Utilization: The slag, once considered a liability and left unused in a dump, is now a valuable resource contributing to high-performance cement. This is a powerful example of how using by-products can improve efficiency and reduce the need for traditional raw materials. By adding mixed slag to their process, the cement plant has found a smart way to handle waste and boost production. 🧐 Curious how slag could work for your business? Let’s find the right solution together! #smartscrap #slag #mixedslag #cementindustry #slagrecycling #greencement #wastetoresource #metallurgicalwaste #decarbonization #slagmanagement #alternativematerials #cement

It was great to take part in ClimateTech’s London summit. Yesterday, Conor O’Riain shared his insights on #decarbonisation and materials innovation in the cement industry. Embodied CO2 in construction is 11% of all global emissions and clinker - cement's critical ingredient - is responsible for over half of these. Rapid decarbonisation solutions are essential and #ClinkerReduction is key to this transformation. Our #LowCarbon cement technology, ACT, is an innovative and scalable solution that can reduce emissions from cement by up to 70%, essentially by removing clinker from the equation: https://lnkd.in/gcjEKnnw #LTW2024 #LondonTechWeek #ClimateTech #FutureOfCement

🎉 Our Green Cement Technology Tracker turns one this month. Happy 1st Birthday! 🌱 Reducing cement CO2 emissions has a vital role to play in decarbonizing heavy industry. It's the world's most used building material but is responsible for around 7% of global emissions. Technological solutions can help the sector unlock its green potential. 🌐 Since its launch the tracker has been following investments in projects from those at feasibility study stage, through pilot and demonstration onto to full scale production. Developed in conjunction with the GCCA – Global Cement and Concrete Association we track technologies that support capturing process emissions, and reducing the amount of clinker in cement production. Our dataset is open to all, we believe transparency aids accountability. We want the tracker to support the cement industry in fulfilling its commitments towards achieving net-zero emissions. Explore ➡️global trends in investment ➡️the status of carbon capture and storage (CCUS) projects with expected capture capacity ➡️the status of calcined clay projects with projected capacity ➡️the value of individual investments ➡️projected online dates 👀 look out in the Autumn for a fully updated dataset. And thank you to all the LeadIT members in the cement sector who are signed up to our vision to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Many working on innovative technologies that will drive decarbonization. 👷🏼 #GreenCement Did you know there are innovative solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of cement? At Ansa, Julien Arnoux and Clara Denoyelle are leading the way in transforming the European construction materials market. They've been exploring several decarbonization strategies for cement, including: 🏭 Industrial Upgrading: By adopting the Best Available Techniques, cement companies can cut emissions by up to 5%. This includes methods like using a dry process with pre-calcination. 🔥 Thermal Mix: Switching from petroleum by-products to alternative fuels can reduce emissions by up to 25%. The industry has long used Recovered Solid Fuels made from waste materials. 🔗 Clinker Content: Clinker is the main emissions culprit in cement (around 70%). Fortunately, we can replace clinker with materials like calcined clay, pozzolan, or metakaolin, which offer similar properties with a lower carbon footprint. 🌍 Carbon Capture: Cement companies are also advancing carbon capture and storage solutions to trap CO2 emissions before they enter the atmosphere, potentially slashing greenhouse gas emissions in the future. How is your company incorporating transformative initiatives for a sustainable future in construction? 🏗️💚 #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #CarbonReduction #ConstructionInnovation #EcoFriendly #Cement #CleanConstruction #SustainableBuildings #SustainableIndustry
