For decades, plastic has been the go-to packaging for bottled water, but it has left a devastating impact on our environment. It's time to shift our focus toward a more sustainable alternative: aluminum. ➡️ Aluminum is 100% recyclable and can be repurposed infinitely without losing its quality. ➡️ Recycling aluminum uses 95% less energy than producing new aluminum from raw materials. ➡️ Unlike plastic, which can take up to 1,000 years to decompose, aluminum can be recycled and back on the shelves within 60 days. Choosing aluminum bottles for water packaging is a small change with a big impact.

♻ Today is World Recycling Day. But it's more than a day to us, it's what we do to make factories profitably circular every day to build a more sustainable tomorrow. 💡 Steel is 100% recyclable. It can be recycled any number of times without loss of quality. It is one of the only materials that does not lose its properties when recycled. 💡 The degrade time for aluminum is around 200-500 years, meaning that if it does go to landfill it takes a very long time to break down. The good news is that unlike many materials, aluminum can be recycled infinitely. 💡 Multi-material plastic packaging is among the most difficult types of waste to recycle. It takes around 0.4 gallons of oil to manufacture a pound of virgin plastic. The average US worker uses around 500 disposable cups per year, many of which contain plastics. We're helping factories to be profitably circular every day. Using recycled materials means less demand for finite resources. But how does this process work? Post-consumer plastic waste is taken to an advanced recycler, where it is recycled. The output is then reprocessed to become raw material used for making new caps, tops and coatings for our packages. Did you know that the universal recycling symbol, the "chasing arrows," doesn't guarantee recyclability? Manufacturers can print it on any product, making it more confusing for consumers. ♻️🚫 #RecyclingMatters 📰 Summary: The recycling system's complexity adds to the challenge. Understanding the numbers in the symbol is crucial, yet only specific plastics are widely recyclable. With just 9% of plastics ever manufactured being recycled, it's time to reassess our approach. 🌐 Challenges and Solutions: Confusing Rules: The variety of plastic types and rules confuses consumers. Local Variances: Recycling is local, with different town policies. Some places might not recycle at all. Production Surge: Plastics production has surged 100-fold since 1960, with over half designed for single use. Solutions: Consider extended producer responsibility laws, regulate single-use plastics, and rethink the chasing arrows symbol. Individuals can make informed choices and support local initiatives. 🌍💪 #PlasticWaste #RecycleRight #SustainabilityJourney #ReducePlasticUse https://lnkd.in/gSBttxER

Think plastic is the worst? Time for a reality check. Being in the packaging industry, I often get asked about the environmental impact of plastic. 💥 So let's bust some myths: 💡 Glass production emits roughly 1 kg CO2 per bottle, a heavyweight in carbon footprint. Despite its recyclability, the energy required for both production and recycling is immense. 💡 Aluminium, celebrated for a 70% recycling rate, still consumes vast amounts of energy, emitting about 8 tons of CO2 per ton of produced metal. Its recycling saves up to 95% of the energy required for new aluminium, and that, I agree is a silver lining. 💡 Plastic, the villain of environmental sustainability, surprisingly emits less during production. Yes! Plastic bottles have a significantly lower carbon footprint than aluminium cans and glass, mainly due to less carbon-intensive production and transportation. Despite aluminium and glass having higher recycling rates, their environmental impact is worse. The opportunity, therefore, lies in improving the recycling rate of plastic, because currently, it is quite at just 9%. Most of our plastic waste – a whopping 79 percent – ends up in landfills or in nature. Some 12 percent is incinerated. The problem isn't the material but our management of it. Revolutionizing waste management and enhancing recycling processes stand as our beacon of hope, not merely swapping one material for another. Ready to challenge conventional wisdom on packaging? It's time to join the "best available" plastic technologies to tackle plastic waste. Recycling is the way to use and reuse plastics over and over. However less than 9% of the plastics produced in the world are recycled. Only 6% is recycled in the US. It will get better, but what do we do for now? Pristine addresses the plastics not being recycled. Simply add the recyclable, biodegradable and compostable, Pristine plastic additive to your plastic manufacturing. It only adds pennies to your overall cost. Be part of the new plastic movement, before you buy look for the Pristine logo.

When it comes to selecting the right packaging for your products, it's important to weigh the pros and cons of each material. Our takes: -plastic is more durable and water resistant -plastic is more harmful than paper packaging if it ends up as marine waste -paper is biodegradable, compostable, with high recycling rate (70%) -paper weighs more than plastic, increasing transit emissions -100% of recycled plastic mailers have a lower carbon footprint than 100% recycled paper mailers Bottom line is: paper is NOT better than plastic and plastic is NOT better than paper Find out more by checking out our new blog post: https://lnkd.in/erECdj2u

If earlier this month you made a commitment to stop using plastics during Plastic Free July, how's it going? Using less plastic is the first step. If you've opted to buy more sustainable packaging, are you recycling it correctly? Here are some tips to make the most of your recycling efforts. 💧 Rinse cans to remove food or liquid residue ♻️Check with your local recycling center about removing paper labels 🥫 For canned goods, completely remove the lid and place it inside the can after rinsing 🚮 Remove plastic lids from aerosol cans and recycle them with other plastics 🚫 Don't crush aluminum cans before recycling to prevent contamination Metals are nonrenewable resources, so recycling your cans is crucial. Check out this recent CNET article to learn more about recycling cans and other metal packaging. https://lnkd.in/grH5zr5S #RecyclingTips #PlasticFreeJuly #MetalPackaging

What mental shortcuts do you use to decide what to recycle? I am working on a waste workshop for a client and this quote, from plastics recycling research, I think is very illuminating: "If I am tired, or things are not going well for me, if it is not made easy for me, I will just not bother” I know from looking in bins, alot in workplaces, that people make a lot of incorrect assumptions e.g. if it's a paper cup or blue roll it's recyclable The mental shortcuts I use are: ❌If it has food or grease on its not recyclable ❌Used for cleaning or wiping up (a napkin or blue roll) it’s not recyclable ❌Or it is multiple different materials (card with plastic) – It is hard to recycle. I’m sure those in the recycling industry have some other ones, what do you use? #waste #recycling

Today is Global Recycling Day! 🌍 What are your favorite recycling hacks? Here are a few recycling ideas!: 1. Use reusable bags. Bring cotton/carrier bags on your grocery trips instead of using plastic or paper bags. 🛍️ 2. Use reusable coffee and water bottles/cups. There’s a reason that Stanley cups and Yetis are all the rage! They encourage us to give up disposable plastics. 3. Choose e-receipts instead of printed receipts. Did you know that most paper receipts are not recyclable? Receipts are made of thermal paper that contains the toxic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) for heat resistance. They are also non-recyclable because the paper used contains for than one material which is impossible to separate. WHAT RECYCLING HACKS CAN YOU SHARE WITH ME?! ♻️🛍️ #Recycling #Sustainability #GreenLiving 📲 918-691-2898 ✉️ chetwilson@kw.com #tulsarealtor #realestatetulsa
