During a daily meeting, staff got to celebrate the presentation of a WOW award to Hospitalist Paul Middleton, M.D., who cares for inpatients at Providence. Recently a patient wrote in about the special care she received from Dr. Middleton. “I would really like to thank Dr. Middleton for making my stay so comfortable. Great article by Dr. Zikry in the Washington Post about Emergency Department boarding. Emergency department boarding refers to the practice of keeping admitted patients in the emergency department, often in hallways, until an inpatient bed becomes available. Emergency Department boarding has always been a problem, but it was significantly exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in a crisis within the U.S. medical system. Studies have linked emergency department boarding to higher in-hospital mortality rates. Despite evidence supporting solutions to address this issue, such changes require a fundamental shift in healthcare administration practices nationwide. The article highlights the urgent need for systemic changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care in Emergency Departments. https://lnkd.in/eKuBmEkZ

New Blog | Five Key Takeaways on Video-Based Patient Monitoring for Preventing Falls "ECRI named ongoing challenges related to patient falls as one of its 2024 Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns because falls continue to be the number one sentinel event reported to the Joint Commission despite the focused attention given to their frequency and severity. Fall prevention was also a 2023 National Patient Safety Goal for both hospitals and long-term care facilities because between 700,000 to 1 million hospitalized patients and about 800,000 nursing home residents fall each year. While patient falls may not be completely eliminated within healthcare settings, person-operated video monitoring systems can reduce fall incidence, fall-related injuries, and operational costs, according to a recently published ECRI Clinical Evidence Assessment." Following on from the MHRA National Patient Safety Alert highlighting the risk of falls and entrapment related to medical beds and trolleys, there has still never been a better time to ensure your patient trolleys are compliant with international safety standards. Fully electric profiling, an unrivalled low height, and excellent safety standards to reduce the risk of entrapment, are just some of the reasons the M9 Trauma is such a popular choice for busy emergency and urgent care environments. All trolleys in the M9 series are designed and developed in accordance with BS EN IEC60601-2-52:2010 to help improve the safety of both patients and caregivers.
