California's freshwater species are quite literally fighting for their lives...and climate change isn’t helping. So, what can be done? 🐸 In our new video, PPIC-CalTrout Ecosystem Fellow Ted Sommer describes the value of one tool: "assisted evolution." 💡 Learn more about other climate-smart tools that can help protect California’s freshwater biodiversity 👉 https://bit.ly/4bC3wcn ➕ Follow us on Instagram! 👉 https://bit.ly/3doh1DB

Tropical forests are vital to global biodiversity, carbon storage, and climate stability, yet they are disappearing at alarming rates. While global efforts aim to eliminate deforestation by 2030, almost all tropical regions missed their 2023 interim targets, putting the planet’s ecological balance and climate goals at greater risk. Our debut on #WorldOceanDay is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of the oceans and promoting sustainable practices to protect marine and freshwater environments. Hydrological synchronicity directly relates to the health of the oceans, and provides an excellent platform to educate about the inter-connectedness of Earth's water systems that affects ocean health, climate regulation, and biodiversity, while opening up opportunities for collaboration, partnerships and cross-pollination of ideas for #teachertraining that aligns with #EUMissionOceans to restore our oceans & waters by 2030. #HydrologicalSynchronicity #oceanliteracy

A small landscape shows great biodiversity. Sometimes small lands are better than large lands without plants. It is the foundation of ecosystem services, which are the benefits that humans derive from nature, such as food, clean water, and climate regulation. Picture: landscape of MoEE, Hargeisa, Somaliland.

To be clear, climate change isn't "weird science". Our understanding of human caused climate change is some of the most bombproof science we have about planet Earth. Addressing that climate change is imperative for bountiful good jobs, clean air and water, a secure and healthy food system, energy security, housing security, and biodiversity conservation. #climatechange #jobs #environment #conservation

One of humanity's greatest achievements—agriculture— has evolved into one of our planet’s biggest threats. But it doesn't have to be this way. As #EarthMonth comes to a close, we reflect on the role that #alternativeproteins can play in creating a more Earth-friendly food system and supporting global climate and biodiversity goals. Wetlands are critically important ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, climate mitigation and adaptation, freshwater availability, world economies and more. And yet nearly 90% of the world’s wetlands have been degraded since the 1700s, and we are losing wetlands three times faster than forests. Today, World Wetlands Day, is a UN-recognized awareness day meant to raise visibility of these crucial ecosystems. And the 2024 theme of #WorldWetlandsDay is “Wetlands and Human Wellbeing,” spotlighting how interconnected wetlands and human life are — with people drawing sustenance, inspiration, and resilience from these productive ecosystems. Share with us your thoughts on wetlands — let's start a dialogue! #NatureForAll
