Engineers don’t move on opportunity alone. If the pay isn’t there, they’re probably not interested. Exceptions exist of course. Usually in the higher salary ranges. But most of the time, money matters a lot. There are awesome firms in this industry, With some incredible benefits too. And there is work out there that is super interesting. But if the total compensation and benefits are the same or worse than what the candidate is currently making, They probably won’t move. It’s just not worth the risks. Everyone’s risk tolerance is different. If the offer is not significantly more than what they are currently making, They're probably going to receive an offer from a competitor that is. With 25 years total in IT, with 20 in InfoSec (CISSP-2004, CISSA-2006), I know that there are perhaps thousands of jobs out there which could use my talents in IT Audit, Compliance, Documentation, SIEM, and Vulnerability Management: */Not one/* employer interview in spite of 50-odd resumes sent out. The jobs that fit me often pay far too little: A skilled, Journeyman Carpenter or Plumber gets about the same as is what is offered in many cases. All I ask is to be 100% remote and I can work in any timezone,. Thoughts, ideas?
