This International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, we are beyond excited to announce a new partnership between Foria and NorWest Community Health Centres. Starting today, anyone living in and around Thunder Bay can access Foria's services for free. These services are virtual hormone therapy and surgical assessments/referrals. This is a huge step to ensure more equitable access to virtual gender-affirming care for trans, non-binary and gender-diverse people in Ontario. It comes a year after Connect-Clinic - Foria's predecessor - was forced to close due to provincial billing code changes. Our mission is to offer our care at no cost across the province, and we hope it is the first of many such partnerships. Foundations of Transgender and Non-Binary Patient Care only has two days left of pre-order (launching on 11/15)! Get the pre-order for $100 off here: https://lnkd.in/gpS_YC_Y The third module in my new course Foundations of Transgender and Non-Binary Patient Care, explores the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) for gender-expansive people and how disparities in these factors impact health experiences and outcomes of Trans and Non-Binary (TGNB) patients. Though social determinants are often discussed as an indicator of population level health, many patients experience unique barriers to care because of these indicators. This module will explore the SDoH and physical and mental health disparities that gender-expansive people experience. Activities will help to connect how SDoH can influence a person’s health and give you the opportunity to reflect on the barriers and facilitators you experience to being healthy.

Elaine Wills and Michelle Fitts have conducted a significant qualitative study on the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in regional and remote Australia who have suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a result of family violence. This research highlights the voices of Indigenous women, focusing on the consequences of TBI and the barriers they face when accessing healthcare. The study identified recurring cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes in these women due to repeated injuries, often compounded by cultural and systemic challenges. Key findings include the urgent need for tailored healthcare responses, increased awareness of TBI within healthcare and support services, and the development of culturally sensitive care pathways, such as co-designed concussion clinics and educational programs. This study underlines the gaps in support systems and calls for a specialized workforce to provide long-term care for Indigenous women living with the effects of family violence and TBI. #IndigenousHealth #TraumaticBrainInjury #FamilyViolence #Healthcare #CulturalAwareness #AboriginalAndTorresStraitIslanderWomen #RemoteAustralia #HealthcareInnovation

Joint statement The yard coventry glamourous group and Unity in Cov Today, we are deeply troubled by the UK Health Secretary’s decision to indefinitely ban hormone blockers for trans youth. This decision disregards extensive evidence from global medical organizations that affirm the importance of gender-affirming care, including hormone blockers, in supporting the mental health and well-being of trans young people. Denying access to this vital care not only places trans youth at risk but sends a harmful message that their needs, experiences, and identities are not valid. We cannot stand by as young people are deprived of the resources that allow them to live authentically and safely. We want to reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with the trans and non-binary community, especially young people who may be feeling vulnerable and scared in the wake of this decision. We will continue to advocate for policies grounded in compassion, science, and human rights, and we call on the government to reconsider this harmful and regressive action. To trans youth: You are valid. You are loved. You deserve access to the care and support you need to thrive. We see you, we stand with you, and we will fight for you. PCOS is a common cause of infertility and is associated with a variety of long-term health issues that impact both physical and emotional well-being. It often runs in families, but there are ethnic variations in how PCOS manifests and affects individuals. Despite its prevalence, many people are still unaware of PCOS. Increasing awareness is crucial and can be achieved through organizations, self-help groups, campaigns, media outlets, notable individuals, and the public. These initiatives bring together healthcare professionals and the public to learn more about PCOS, fostering supportive communities that lead to empowerment and improved care for those affected by PCOS. Let us all take a stand to raise awareness about PCOS, even if it's just educating one person around us, so we can help the larger community.
