2023 marked 30 years since a pioneering launch of the Nordic Explorer. Back in 1993, PGS’ latest vessel was equipped with a record-breaking five streamers for her maiden job on UKCS Quad 204/205 in the Faroe-Shetland Basin. What drew people's attention at the time was the volume of data collected and the duration taken to complete the job🚢 Initially the size of the survey area was 1020 sq. km for an acquisition period for 150 days. This gradually grew to 1774 sq. km and was completed in just 135 days, on 2 September. We were delighted with an average production of 558 CMP km per day. The new layout of two winches forward with under-spooling, and radio controlled digital data options and PLC-controlled synchronization of the streamer winches changed how back-deck operations were done for years to come. Exciting times down in Southampton with Simon on the Pantaenius UK Ltd. vessel! Our N2K system is fully operational onboard, serving as both a reliable man overboard alarm and a wireless engine kill switch. Simon's crew utilises our orange OLAS tag and the new rechargeable OLAS T2 tag simultaneously. One acts as a crew tag, while the other serves as a helm tag. In case of a crew member falling overboard, our crew tag activates the OLAS N2Ks alarm which issues coordinates of the alert to the helm for swift rescue operations. Meanwhile, the helm tag functions similarly but with a twist. It automatically cuts off the engine upon detecting the wearer moving beyond a set range or falling overboard. After 7 seconds, the engine can be restarted if other crew members are onboard. For solo trips, it provides a window to swim back to safety. Brazilian OSV Charterers kick starts 2024 – 3x tenders live! During the last days of 2023, Petrobras and PRIO approached the market with new tenders for PSVs, OSRVs, AHTSs, and W2W. Specifically, Petrobras came with a tender to charter up to 21 PSVs, ranging from 3,000 DWT to 4,500 DWT. The contract period is 1,460 days, with mobilization for the different batches varying from August 2024 to November 2024. Additionally, the Oil Major released another tender seeking to charter up to 7 OSRVs, with a 1460-day contract duration. Following the same pattern as some recent tenders, Petrobras disclosed its maximum budget of USD 35,000 per day for the OSRVs. Again, mobilization is set between August 2024 and December 2024. Last but not least, PRIO has also released an RFQ, seeking to charter an accommodation vessel. The contract duration is set for 90 days firm, with additional options of 6 periods of 15 days each. Commencement is scheduled for April 2024. The vessel must have DP2, a deck area of 720m², and an accommodation capacity of 50-80 PAX. All else being equal, 2024 promises to be an even better year than 2023 for the chartering of OSVs.
