The demand for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) will only continue to increase as countries transition toward electric mobility and seek more efficient energy storage systems and options for renewable energy storage. Efficient power electronics with intelligent control functions is the key technology for a sustainable energy system based on renewable energies
What are grid-forming converters? This question can only be answered in detail when we agree on how to comprehensively test grid-forming converters. And that's exactly what we did today during our workshop with inverter manufacturers and the support of the four German transmission system operators. We are thrilled to have had 40 participants, consisting of extremely knowledgeable and experienced experts, join us for this workshop. Their expertise and insights greatly enriched our intensive discussions regarding our proposed testing methods. We extend our deepest gratitude to each and every participant for their active engagement and contribution. We would also like to express our appreciation to Alexander Folz from Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz for delivering an insightful introductory statement, outlining the German government's position on the significant expansion of renewable energy and the associated challenges in ensuring system stability. He also highlighted the upcoming market for providing momentary reserves. 💰 Christian Schöll also emphasized the importance of grid-forming inverters for power grids from the perspective of the transmission system operators. The GFM Benchmarking Initiative, which aims to analyze the state-of-the-art in GFM implementation by a cross-vendor benchmark test, is open to all interested parties.
