What's Happening in #Tampa / #StPete: After years of retooling plans for a 29-acre vacant industrial property in west St. Petersburg! Landowner Porter Development LLC, headed by Les Porter, and joint venture partners Falcone Group and Metro Development Group, have submitted funding requests to the City of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County for the project now called Azalea Gateway, a proposed mixed-income multifamily project at 1501 72nd Street North, the former home of Raytheon Technologies. The development group is requesting a $4.9 million contribution from the City of St. Petersburg and $9.9 million from Pinellas County’s Penny for Pinellas funds to help construct phase one of the project. According to the submitted funding requests, Porter Development expects to break ground in early 2025. The city intends to sign construction contracts worth close to $7 billion with two construction partnerships for the new Queens and Bronx jails that show they may not be completed until 2031 — four years after the 2027 Close Rikers deadline — city records show. The Grenfell Tower Memorial Commission in conjunction with RIBA have this week launched the process to appoint a Grenfell Tower Memorial design team. This is a hugely significant step in the Grenfell Tower Memorial Commission’s journey to create a bold, fitting, and lasting memorial to remember the 72 victims who lost their lives in, and those whose lives were forever changed by, the devastating Grenfell Tower fire. A shortlist of up to five teams will be notified in the autumn. These teams will be asked by the Commission to prepare the design approach they would take if appointed. With direct input from the Grenfell Community, the final team is expected to be selected and announced in spring 2025. In years to come this memorial should serve as a constant reminder to all of us involved in every aspect of fire safety in the built environment to really care about what we do. To take our responsibilities seriously, to be diligent and to accurately and honestly record our actions enabling us to share critical information with others, which will ultimately help to save lives. Each department director, as part of his or her annual evaluation, is reviewed concerning program implementation. In the event a deficiency is found, HRD will work with the director to identify prohibiting factors and offer any assistance necessary to successfully implement the program. 118
