Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2024: A Story of Healing through Art This NAIDOC Week, we celebrate the amazing journey of Kylie and David Hill and their family. Years ago, they started a business that uses art to connect with communities across Australia having collaborated with communities and organisations in Queensland, NSW, and Victoria. For them, art is not just creative—it's a way to heal and share their culture. Kylie shares First Nations tribes used art to share important messages. They didn’t write letters and used symbols and drawings to tell stories. Whether it was about a birth, a hunt, or a special event, these drawings were their way of communicating. Today, Kylie, David and their family keep this tradition alive through their business, sharing their heritage with everyone. At Bunzl, we are proud to have Kylie’s family create the artwork for our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan. This partnership is about more than just art—it's about building strong relationships and working together as one. NAIDOC Week isn’t just one week of the year. The Kleinfelder team took time to acknowledge NAIDOC week and the importance of celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The team participated in events to learn more about First Nations culture, investigated and presented ways to promote and foster increased Indigenous participation in our industry, and incorporated conscious supply changes to our business. All with the aim of learning how to be the best ally we can be.   This NAIDOC week we at Kleinfelder continue to make conscious focused changes and challenge ourselves to learn and do more; for we believe even today’s smaller deliberate changes can become the instinctive strides forward of tomorrow. #NAIDOC2024

But, NAIDOC Week gives the whole Country a reminder to pause and celebrate the oldest continuing culture in the world. 🌏 Across this vast continent, mob everywhere work tirelessly to change the impact of colonisation and prioritise the self determining interest of First Peoples to lead successful and fulfilling lives. You might like to take a moment to recognise and appreciate your First Nations colleague, friend or family member. You could take some time out to do some self guided learning through factual and First Nations led research, or go check out and participate in your local NAIDOC community events. If you are a decision maker and hold a level of responsibility and accountability in your organisation, have you thought about creating sustainable long term change for the benefit of First Peoples? During National NAIDOC Week, people all across Australia are celebrating the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The theme for this year's NAIDOC Week is "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud" which celebrates the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture. It's important to recognise the resilience, strength, and contributions of Indigenous people to our society. The fire symbolises the connection to Country, each other and traditions. Honouring this flame ignites pride and unity, reaffirming our commitment to acknowledge, preserve, and share the cultural heritage that enriches our nation. For SW Accountants & Advisors, NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to reflect further on our own journey towards reconciliation and to consider ways in which we can better support and engage with Indigenous communities. Some of the areas we are committed to include increasing supplier diversity, and promoting cultural awareness and understanding for a safe workplace. It's NAIDOC week, and this year's theme is Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud, and Proud. This years theme focuses on celebrating the cultural resilience of First Nations people, their profound connection to the land and traditions, and their pride in their First Nation identity. "It embodies our purpose, calling us to celebrate and honour the strength and vitality of our cultures."   As an organisation, we have been putting to task the recommendations from NAIDOC - here’s three things you can do:    - Check your local council for events: https://lnkd.in/dexeVKVM - If you cannot attend an in-person event, here are other ways to participate: Follow and engage with First Nations creators online, attend online events, and watch movies and shows featuring First Nations stories. As Australia celebrates NAIDOC week this week, it is worth appreciating the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and also an opportunity to learn about one of the oldest continuous living cultures on Earth 🌍. 💎 New Governance Requirements for Indigenous Data: Recently, Australian Public Service agencies adopted the Framework for Governance of Indigenous Data. Co-designed with Indigenous partners, this framework ensures better access to government-held Indigenous data for First Nations Australians. It emphasizes collaboration, capability-building, and an inclusive data system. 💎 These governance requirements aim to contribute directly to ‘closing the gap’ by enhancing data accessibility, quality management and ethical use of indigenous data, and promoting inclusivity via ensured respectful collaboration and decision making for uplifting these communities.
