Over on our blog we have published our response to the non statutory draft guidance for schools and colleges in England and Wales regarding gender-questioning children and young people. This draft guidance was released on 19 December 2023 with a consultation open until 12 March 2024. We sent our own response as an organisation to that consultation back in March and are sharing our response publicly now to record our opposition to it in its entirety. Through our work and lived experience we know the impact on trans and gender expansive people when their right to exist is called into question. Every child and young person should be safe and respected in school or college and their best interests met in an environment that celebrates learning, inclusivity and diversity. The UK government’s draft guidance for schools in England does not respect or serve the interests of trans and gender-expansive children and young people and is at odds with existing children’s rights and equalities legislation in the UK, including both the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998. The lives of trans and gender-expansive children and young should never be up for debate. We join with many other LGBT+ organisations, youth organisations and schools in urging the government to reconsider the position taken in this guidance and instead to view this as a vital opportunity to implement clear guidance that creates genuine inclusivity and safety for all children and young people, including by listening to children and young people themselves. Head to our website to read our full statement, with links to relevant evidence and research. https://lnkd.in/eNjxA_GV

As part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the Research Society of Policy Studies (RSPS) from the Department of International Relations visited the Goodwill Kaniz Foundation Orphanage. The visit was a heartwarming opportunity to engage with the children, spread positivity, and support their educational journey through thoughtful donations and activities. This activity was not just an act of kindness but a step toward meaningful societal impact, aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically, the visit contributed to: -Reducing Poverty (SDG 1): By providing educational resources, we aimed to alleviate barriers to learning for underprivileged children. -Quality Education (SDG 4): Ensuring access to school supplies emphasizes the importance of education as a fundamental right for every child. -Gender Equality (SDG 5): Through encouragement and empowerment, we highlighted the importance of equal opportunities for young girls in society. RSPS remains dedicated to its mission of advocacy, empowerment, and contribution to sustainable development. #sdgs #csr #humanrights

Did you know that celebrating the girl child is important because: *Historically, girls faced (and still face) inequalities:* 1. Education: Girls were denied access to education. 2. Health: Girls' health needs were neglected. 3. Rights: Girls' rights were ignored. 4. Opportunities: Girls had limited opportunities. *Why celebrate the girl child?* 1. Promote equality: Recognize girls' rights and potential. 2. Empowerment: Encourage girls to make choices and decisions. 3. Break stereotypes: Challenge traditional gender roles. 4. Support education: Ensure girls have access to quality education. 5. Improve health: Address girls' specific health needs. 6. Foster self-esteem: Build confidence and self-worth. *International Day of the Girl Child (October 11th):* United Nations declared this day to: 1. Raise awareness about girls' issues. 2. Inspire action for girls' empowerment. 3. Celebrate girls' achievements. *In simple terms:* We celebrate the girl child to: 1. Value and respect girls. 2. Ensure equal opportunities. 3. Empower girls to reach their potential. *Everyday actions:* 1. Support girls' education. 2. Encourage girls' participation. 3. Challenge gender biases. 4. Mentor a girl. 5. Promote positive role models. *Together, let's:* Empower girls, enable equality, and create a brighter future for our daughters, sisters and mothers ❣️

The call for collective action has never been stronger. Ending #FGM and #HarmfulPractices isn’t a journey for women to walk alone; it’s a responsibility that belongs to everyone, and it thrives on unity and shared purpose. Men: fathers, brothers, Religious leaders, Community leaders, play a pivotal role in creating safe, supportive communities where every girl’s right to health, education, and a life free from fear is protected and celebrated. When men and women stand together, challenging harmful traditions, we foster a culture that values empowerment over control and support over silence. Men who choose to speak out against harmful practices and to champion change become leaders of a more compassionate and just society. They inspire their peers, their families, and their communities. Imagine the impact: a world where each girl can pursue her dreams without limits, where communities uphold dignity and respect, and where the next generation grows up in a legacy of equality. #MenEndFGM #GenderEquality #MenasAllies #MenForGenderEquality

A Call to Action for All Young girls and women are the pillars of our society, but they often face challenges and obstacles that prevent them from realizing their full potential. That's why it's essential to fight for their rights and empowerment. The motivation to fight for the rights of young girls and women comes from the conviction that every individual has the right to live a dignified and respectful life. Young girls and women have the right to receive quality education, work in fair conditions, and make decisions about their own bodies and lives. However, the motivation to fight for the rights of young girls and women also comes from the anger and frustration at the injustices and discriminations they face. Young girls and women are often victims of violence, harassment, discrimination, and exclusion. They are often denied their fundamental rights, including the right to health, education, and political participation. That's why it's essential to fight for the rights of young girls and women. We must stand up to defend their rights, support them, and accompany them in their fight for equality and justice. We must create a world where young girls and women are treated with respect, dignity, and equality. So, let's join forces to fight for the rights of young girls and women. Let's join forces to create a more just, equitable, and respectful world for all. 📢 Girls and young women are making their voices heard loud and clear at the ongoing UN #SummitoftheFuture where world leaders have gathered in NYC. 🪟 The UN Summit provides a critical window of opportunity to increase commitment to and investment in adolescent girls’ rights in the 2030 Agenda and post-2030 development framework, recognising that adolescent girls are currently at risk of being left behind. ❤️ Girls’ voices must be at the heart of these discussions through the institutionalisation of meaningful and safe participation of girls and young people in the decision-making processes of the Summit, including resourcing their sustained and meaningful participation in accountability mechanisms. https://lnkd.in/dpH9xnxx #ChildParticipation #ChildRights

🌍✨ World Children’s Day - November 20, 2024✨🌍 Today, we come together to celebrate the rights of every child to education, an essential tool that empowers and transforms lives. On this World Children’s Day, it’s a reminder that every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, deserves access to quality education that supports their growth and future opportunities. In line with this vision, the Implementation Management Committee of the Scaling-up Basic Education in Lao PDR (SABEL Phase 2) project met today to review and discuss the progress being made in areas that are critical to supporting teachers and students alike: 📚 Continuous Professional Development for Teachers through the establishment of Instructional Pedagogy Support (IPS) system through the District Education Support Bureau (DESB) 📖 Promoting reading among non-Lao speaking early grade learners through reading corners 👩🏫 Training on Gender Action Learning (GAL) tools to promote gender equality ♿ Disability and Inclusion Training (DIT) to improve the accessibility of children with disability in schools The SABEL project has been implemented by ChildFund in Laos, a representative office of ChildFund Australia through the funding from 초록우산 어린이재단(Childfund Korea) These initiatives are at the heart of ensuring that all children, including those from marginalized groups, can thrive in an inclusive and equitable learning environment. Let’s continue to work together to make quality education a reality for every child. Their future depends on it.
