SpaceTech Predictions 2024 Update - Prediction 8 🌌 Microgravity goldrush for advancements in life sciences and material sciences 🔬 The microgravity realm of space isn't just a scientific curiosity; it's a potential goldmine for groundbreaking advancements in life sciences and material sciences. New classes of drugs and novel materials developed in Space could have a transformational impact on areas as diverse as pharmaceuticals, telecoms and microelectronics. We predict that 2024 will be the year we start to see microgravity R&D move out of the lab and off the International Space Station. We anticipate that during the year, several companies will progress towards small-scale production of materials formulated in space, including on free-flying platforms designed for in-space R&D and manufacturing. #LiteScope Product Demo Yesterday we had the opportunity to demonstrate NenoVision's LiteScope at the chair of Prof Dr Marc-Georg Willinger at the Department of Chemistry of the Technische Universität München (TUM). Jan Neuman (Managing Director of NenoVision) and Radek Dao (Application Specialist at NenoVision) introduced us to the world of AFM-in-SEM technology. They presented how the LiteScope works and impressed us with the great advantages of analysing different samples in situ. What we took away: ▶ With the LiteScope in your SEM, you combine the strengths of #AFM and #SEM technology. ▶ It allows complex and #correlative sample analysis ▶ In-situ sample characterisation, particularly interesting for #air #sensitive samples ▶ #Precise #localisation of the region of interest ▶ The LiteScope offers a wide range of #measurement #modes to analyse different sample properties. ▶ It is extremely #quick and #easy to install and remove from the SEM. ▶ The LiteScope can also be used for analysis #outside the SEM. ▶ It is a powerful tool for a wide range of fields such as materials science, nanotechnology, semiconductors, and life sciences - highly interesting for #battery #research. From our Photonics Frontiers series: A silicon-nitride-based photonics platform set up by imec is opening up visible light applications for photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology in the life sciences and medical fields. According to imec fellow of Life Science Technologies, Pol Van Dorpe, the technology within the SiN platform – the material system, manufacturing methodology and tools – has existed for a while, but the creation of commercial manufacturing capacity has been motivated by an increasing demand for photonic integration in life sciences. https://lnkd.in/erQ4SzDH

In this paper, the authors propose and analyze a biocompatible modulation technique for #in-#vivo #Wireless #Nanosensor #Networks (#iWNSNs). A mathematical framework is formulated to optimize the parameters of an adaptive Time Spread #On-#Off #Keying (#OOK) pulse-based modulation. This optimization considers both the physics of the intra-body optical channel and the light-matter interactions, along with the resulting photo-thermal effects in biological tissues. The outcomes of the analytical optimization model are validated through extensive numerical simulations.
