DLUHC have today published their quarterly statistics for Q3 2023 on housing dwelling starts and completions - look at the drop in starts - the only two major drops before that which are shown in the data are during the 2008 financial crisis and more recently during the pandemic. https://lnkd.in/eJQS2pdT #housing #housingsuppply #housingcrisis #planning

Really interesting research into the tenant satisfaction measures (TSM) data by Inside Housing that is well worth a read. Some particularly interesting points: - online surveys typically produce satisfaction results that are 15% lower than telephone surveys - residents in urban areas are on average much less satisfied than those in rural areas. London in particular has average satisfaction scores 15% below other cities - satisfaction sits at around 70% on average for overall satisfaction and for satisfaction with repairs. But satisfaction with complaints handling is much lower - averaging 34% - unsurprisingly, recent regulatory intervention is linked to lower satisfaction scores - overall ALMOs performed better than traditional RPs and councils, which is particularly interesting as some councils are looking to close down their ALMOs and bring the service back in house #ukhousing #socialhousing https://lnkd.in/eBGHx6Ch

With the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) proposing to adopt the 2021 IECC (https://lnkd.in/eRwUPAys), it begs the question why over half the States that have a much older version on the books aren't seeking to adopt the 2024 IECC... Fear mongering about housing affordability aside, what are your thoughts? We need States to step up and adopt the 2024 IECC NOW!

A report by Public First, commissioned by RTPI, revealed that planning reform and increased housing development could miss out on over £70 billion in additional value by not investing in planning. The report indicates that if the profession continues to be underinvested, there could be missed opportunities for a "planning premium." LIHTC has financed over 3.7 million affordable homes since its inception in 1986. Though widely regarded as a successful program, spanning nearly four decades, and receiving broad, bipartisan support, the program is perennially at risk. In 2018 Congress increased the Housing Credit allocation by 12.5% on a bipartisan basis, but the increase has now expired at a time when rents are skyrocketing. In addition to restoring these resources, the program should be significantly expanded to meet the vast growing demand for affordable housing. Bipartisan legislation, the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (S. 1557/H.R. 3238), would restore the 12.5% allocation increase, further increase the Housing Credit allocation by an additional 50%, and make other changes to unlock additional resources, streamline the program, and facilitate more developments in hard-to-reach areas like rural and Native communities.
