Dear Educators: the care you provide for your student is seen and appreciated! 🫂 Education research has shown for years that social, emotional, and cognitive processing are all neurologically intertwined, and that school connectedness has long-lasting protective effects for adolescents. In our 2024 Student Voice Report, survey data highlighted that students’ perceptions of teacher care and support have remained relatively stable over time. Students generally report feeling supported by “some” to “most” of their teachers. 👏 Looking for support in increasing student perception of teacher care in your school? Head to the link below to view the full 2024 Student Voice Report and learn about our partnership opportunities. https://lnkd.in/gHPKq_g6 #schoolculture #principals #students #edleadership #educhat #k12 #belonging #wellbeingmatters #challengesuccess #TeacherTools #TeachingResources #ClassroomIdeas #EquityInEducation #mentalhealthmatters

Early Intervention can be effective in helping a majority of children make progress toward achieving age appropriate developmental milestones. Children receiving Early Intervention support may show potential for increased academic readiness and to better be able to interact with their peers. #RaiseAgainstAutism #PinnacleSaysItAll #PinnacleBloomsNetwork #1AutismTherapyCentresNetwork

We know the SEND system is failing children and young people who need additional support in school. After years of underinvestment, there is a shortage of educational psychologists, despite well-evidenced rising demand. All children deserve equitable access to an educational psychologist. Support our campaign and write to your MP (link below). It will only take a few seconds, and you could help us make a difference for children. #PsychologyMatters #SEND
Education of thousands more children at risk of reaching crisis point due to workforce crisis. Dr Gavin Morgan, DECP chair spoke to us in response to our recent survey of educational psychologists which found that just over half of all educational psychologists say they feel unable to support children and young people with their current workload. Psychological Coach: Development & Transition. Educational CPD: Student Wellbeing. MSc Psychology of Mental Health and Wellbeing (GMBPsS).
There is a pressing need for a greater number of Educational Psychologists, as well as equitable access to them. The application window for the funded training (EPFT) scheme is now open. If you are considering it, and it’s a viable option for you, I encourage you to head over to the Association of Educational Psychologists website for more information: https://lnkd.in/dVmA77Yr I have considered this route so I recognise the hurdles*: 🎯 There are only 12 universities in England that offer the course, each of which offer around 16-17 places per year. 🎯 There are only 204 funded places available in total and it is a 6-year commitment (3 years’ professional doctorate + 3 years’ post-qualification employment in a local authority). 🎯 The overall success rate for 2023 was 16% of applicants, with some of the more oversubscribed universities having a success rate of 4-5%. 🎯 There appears to be only one university that offers self-funded places, at a cost of over £19,000 for the first year of tuition, plus around £9,000 per year for years 2 and 3. (*This is from my own exploration so please be sure to fact check and look for up-to-date information for yourself.) As well as having the necessary skills, experience, values and mindset, it requires a stroke of good fortune to be located within commuting distance of one of these 12 universities, plus more good fortune to be offered a place. I’m thankful that my place in the Coaching Psychology world and my membership of the BPS Division of Coaching Psychology (Main) positions me to make a small contribution to work in this area but much, much more is needed. As Dr Gavin Morgan states in the video: “The focus should be on early intervention and prevention for children and their families, rather than the reactive system that we’ve got, where difficulties have already become entrenched…”. Whether you’re an aspiring EP, you work in education, psychology, coaching or any other related profession, or if you are a parent who recognises this need, please do watch the The British Psychological Society video below. #psychologymatters #educationalpsychology #childpsychology #coachingpsychology

Innovate UK Grant Winner: MySpeekie – ONE-Screen AAC | Creator of MyWordz® – Speech Sound Mapping with ‘Phonemies’ from Birth | The Immunisation Against Illiteracy Initiative, Including Dyslexia Screening for 3-Year-olds
Again, this is a result of a system that is not fit for purpose. It’s a symptom. Thank you for this Nancy Doyle As parents, we are told to send children to school, with little choice about the type. Why is there so little choice around the school model? Why do children even have to attend a physical school full-time? Why is there so little flexibility? As teachers, regardless of the claims around differentiation and inclusion, we are told to teach children in the same way and at the same time – for example, synthetic phonics programmes – and then we all wonder why children (human beings) respond to this one-size-fits-all approach when they ARE NOT all the same. The existing policy around teaching children to read and spell in DfE-maintained schools is not inclusive, for example. Period. Even within term 1, we have children bored, anxious, stressed…all sorts of emotions that produce a behaviour response. Some children learn to mask, some try hard to adapt, and some just can’t bottle in those emotions. And then what? Those outbursts are punished. The child does not want to go back to that place. And the cycle escalates. At what point do we consider something different? The existing model can’t be repaired. Can we really afford not to create something new? In the meantime we are seeking funding to screen children just before they turn 3, so we can identify which children are likely most at risk when they enter the existing school system. That’s how worried we are for the 1 in 3. We want to find them and connect with their families early. This demonstrates we have good cause.

Top research alert - Newcastle University report on the odds that neurodivergent children are **46 times** more likely to experience #SchoolDistress and are at risk of significant trauma from punitive regimes where non-compliance is assumed to be defiance. Heartbreaking quotes from parents who are legally compelled to manhandle their traumatised children into school or be faced with resourcing home education and no state support at all. A real wake up call for educators and SEND specialists, as well as politicians. Two excellent calls to action: ✅️ End attendance targets ✅️ End the legal presupposition that all children are better off in school. https://lnkd.in/ea7QymHm

I highly recommend this Knowledge Block to any educational professional who gives evaluations and attends team meetings to determine eligibility for Special Education. Dyslexic students have a complex learning profile and it's so important to learn about these assessments and evaluations. #dyslexia #dyslexiaevaluation

Collaboration | Engagement | Analysis | Results | Experience across Education, Development, & Business | Comfortable with the Fast Pace & Agility Start-Ups Require
In a recent post, I highlighted findings from a new Pew Research Center study which reported that more then three-quarters of teachers described their job as "frequently stressful" and 68% said they were "overwhelmed." As Laura McGuire points out in a recent article from Edutopia - George Lucas Educational Foundation, while strides have been made towards understanding the mind-body-behavior connection and it is important to integrate trauma-informed care in classrooms, educators and administrators have largely been forgotten. Based on experiences as an SME in the field for 10+ years, she emphasizes that classroom trauma-informed care cannot be sustained without addressing educator and administrators needs as well. While some ways to provide support may require funding or redistribution of resources, others like more frequent opportunities for breaks, counseling access, chaplaincy, and support groups require little or no money. And if you look at the ROI in terms of well-being, health, retention, hiring/recruitment savings, the returns are quite large and certainly important. #K12 #education #trauma #ROI https://lnkd.in/eRpnSC63
