SCAM SPOTLIGHT: Double Brokering What is it? Double brokering is the illegal act of a broker or carrier transferring a load to another trucking company without notifying the shipper. Illegitimate carriers and brokers accept a load for a set fee with no intention of hauling the payload. Instead, they pass the freight onto another trucking company for transport at a lower rate and pocket the difference. The most malicious form of double brokering is when the illegitimate party accepts payment, pockets the fee, and disappears without paying the carrier. Then the legitimate carrier will request payment from the broker or shipper who has already paid the fraudster. So the broker or shipper ends up paying twice or the legitimate carrier doesn't get paid at all. QuikSkopes Suggestions: 1. See how long the carrier has been in business, 90 days is a good threshold 2. Make sure the phone number or email address matches what is showing in the carriers' FMSCA record. If it’s different, ask why. 3. Don't hesitate to stop the transaction. If something doesn't feel right, trust your intuition. This is our sweet spot! QuikSkope cross-references broker and MC information in real-time which occurs at the load level before the pickup number is released. Before pickup occurs, a driver will verify themselves through the QuikSkope platform via a secure link. If fraud is detected, the pickup number will not released and the hired MC and broker will immediately be notified. Interested in a demo or trying it out for free?! 📈 Industry Insights: 🚨Safeguarding Against Fraudulent Carriers in Logistics 📉🔒 Working in the 🌐 global supply chain makes businesses susceptible to various types of fraudulent activities, including carrier fraud 🚛. With an alarming rise in sophistication, carrier fraudsters are becoming increasingly prolific in today's digital business environment. They are capable of creating fictitious companies, intercepting legitimate business transactions, and obscuring their fraudulent activities, thereby reducing the risk of getting caught. In our few recent posts on the "Fraudulent Carriers" topic, we delved into the implications of carrier fraud, and how a single instance of fraud can cause massive disruptions, amounting to losses of over 1 million EUR! Continuing in the same vein, we want to highlight some key types of carrier fraud, sourced from industry experts TT Club, that are significantly impacting freight forwarders: 1️⃣ Fake Carriers: Their modus operandi is creating a fictitious profile, advertising delivery services at attractive rates. Often, these fraudsters strike at the busiest times, capitalizing on the likelihood that due diligence checks will be overlooked. 2️⃣ Driver Call Diverting: Fraudsters who utilize freight exchange sites often pose as freight forwarders. They match a trucking company to a shipper, and then, like a "middle man," provide altered delivery instructions, hijacking the cargo in transit. 3️⃣ Fraudulent Collection: These fraudsters, armed with forged identities and stolen vehicles, stage a pick-up from the distribution center, counting on busy schedules and insufficient checks for their plans to succeed. Once deemed legitimate enough, they walk away with the cargo. Each of these instances highlights the importance of maintaining vigilance at every stage of freight forwarding. We will continue to provide insights into mitigating these risks in succeeding posts. Stay tuned for more in-depth discussions on tackling fraud in logistics! Let's learn, adapt, and stay one step ahead of the game. 🚚🔍💨 Source: TT Club #ClaimsTrans #FraudPrevention #LogisticsIndustry #CarrierFraud #TTClub

Happy August! This month's infographic delves into the critical importance of vetting carriers to mitigate the risk of fraud. Cargo theft and double brokering pose challenges in the transportation and logistics industry. They impact businesses financially, disrupt supply chains, and risk the security of goods. A comprehensive carrier vetting process can help mitigate these risks for shippers. 💠Cargo Theft Cargo theft has reached a ten-year peak, with the most targeted items being food, beverages, electronics, and household goods. The states with the highest occurrences of theft are California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky. 💠Double Brokering Double brokering is a great concern for the transportation industry. This growing issue has cost the industry 100 million annually. Smaller fleet-sized carriers will often fall victim to these schemes. By following a compliance process, this will help eliminate working with potential double brokers. 💠Carrier Vetting Checking a carrier's safety score and reports will allow us to see if the carrier has the qualifications and credibility to deliver a load safely. Carrier's MC, address, phone numbers, insurance, and digital activities need to be checked for any suspicious signs of fraudulent. Compliance is crucial to the carrier onboarding process for any company. #RDSInforgraphic #DoubleBroker #CargoTheft #Logistics #3PL #LogisticsManagement #B2B #Transportation #Trucking #LogisticsSolutions #LogisticsSolutions #LogisticsIndustry #CarrierSafety

Fraud Enablers of Trucking/Logistics Everyone complains about fraud in the industry but one of the root causes are the LoadBoards themselves. LoadBoards such as Dat, TruckStop, Sylectus and Full Circle are riddled with documented double brokers, fraudulent dispatchers, and organized crime groups with multiple authorities. Their claims of being against fraud are just words without action. They employ people outside the USA to run their platforms and in theory causing a severe security breach to reputable Brokers, Carriers, Customers, US Military and anyone involved in freight. The best part most people don’t know truly what’s going on. Some of you even support and sponsor these platforms while they give bad players access to their platforms. Hell, most of these LoadBoards partner themselves with other industry frauds running money grab platforms. When I’m doing my research, collaboration and infiltration. It’s amazing how all of this goes on so freely fueling the fraud in so many ways. Yet, here we are 2024 and very few people are willing to fight for what is right for the whole industry. Suits and leather skirts don’t impress me while you support platforms to feel special sporting your suit or shaking your ass. Impressive would be combatting fraud from all parts of the industry and supporting reputable organizations like rainbow babies or youth groups. Final Note: Brokers and LoadBoards play a huge part in allowing and stopping the fraud. #FreightBroker, #TheBannonReport, #MotorCarrier, #Logistics, #Insurance, #Transportation, #Dispatcher, #Shipper, #Trucking, #DAT, #Sylectus, #TruckStop, #Loadboard, #Fmcsa, #CDL, #Future, #Management, #OwnerOp, #Fraud, #Scammer, #Scumbag, #USDOT, #Receiver, #LogisticsManager, #LogisticsOperation, #Vetting, #FreightValidate, #OverWeight, #ExpeditedFreight, #Exposed, #MyCarrierPortal, #Descartes, #FullCircle, #Macropoint, #TruckingLife, #Truck, #Sprinter, #CargoVanBusiness, #Trucker, #Transport, #SupplyChain, #ExpediteCarrier, #Business, #DoubleBrokerBountyHunter, #Facebook, #FreightForwarder, #3PL, #LogisticsLounge, #DoubleBroker

#Brokers, #Shippers, #Carriers, and other stakeholders are spending millions of dollars per year for platforms designed to identify red flags in an effort to prevent freight fraud. “Carrier identity”, “predictive carrier performance”, and “Carrier reporting” companies evaluate various types of information to stop fraud, but in reality, the problem just keeps getting worse. I think one reason it’s getting worse is we are looking for reactive approaches to fight fraud rather than being proactive and stopping it from happening in the first place. Until now, only FreightValidate ✅ has spent the time, effort, and money to get to the root of the problem. Here is what we have uncovered: In 2013, the FMCSA admitted in the Federal Register that it only vets Household Goods and Passenger Applicants, despite having the authority to vet all new applicants for Motor Carrier, Freight Forwarder, and Freight Broker Authority. Since then, fraud, double broker activity, identity, and cargo theft have grown to unprecedented levels, costing newly $1 billion per year. The problems all start with the vetting and registration process, where information provided on the applications does not get checked by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration At www.FreightValidate.com , we double-check and do the work that the FMCSA should’ve been doing for the past 10 years. Our #DELTA (Don’t Even Let Them Aboard) Program ensures that carriers & brokers are not validated in our system if the information contained on the application for authority is incorrect, incomplete, or noncompliant with 49 CFR regulations and other federal and state laws. Fraud starts with fraud and ends with FreightValidate ✅ Subscribe today, and our plans are just $29 per month for individuals and $99 per month for companies (corporate plans offer unlimited users for one low price). 🚨 Freight Scam Alert: Double Brokering Scheme 🚨 Beware of a sophisticated freight scam targeting brokers! Scammers pose as customers, deceive brokers into posting loads, and then cunningly accept the load as fake carriers. This intricate con involves impersonation, fake MC numbers, and leaves brokers unpaid. Steps: 1️⃣ Scammer poses as a broker, obtains shipper's credit info. 2️⃣ Impersonates shipper to another broker using acquired info. 3️⃣ Books loads with a fake MC number. 4️⃣ Acts as shipper, collects payment as carrier, never pays broker. 💡 Key Recommendations for Prevention: Vet shippers: Google and LinkedIn searches, scrutinize email domains, conduct credit checks. Check carriers: Use SAFER or Carrier Assure for identity validation and compliance. Industry experts stress vigilance! Cassandra Gaines, CEO of Carrier Assure, emphasizes credit checks and careful credit extension. The National Owner Operator Association warns of professional scammers causing significant losses. https://lnkd.in/gkaMagkh Fraud in the freight industry is at an all-time high. Last night I caught a carrier that is brokering loads illegally to another carrier for transport. You have no recourse in the event of damage or total loss when a carrier does this. Outside of reporting them, we have no real recourse. The FMCSA is doing a terrible job of vetting/investigating these bad actors and enforcing the laws and regulations. So it's up to us. If you are a shipper, you NEED to demand carrier details from your brokers. You should know the driver, the carrier, the truck, and the trailer info before that truck ever arrives at your dock. You as a shipper should be verifying that the truck that shows up matches all of the details you receive from your broker. If any details are incorrect, refuse loading and call your broker immediately. The only way these bad actors survive in the industry is from a lack of communication. If you follow these guidelines, you will never have freight stolen, or end up on the hook paying damages out of your pocket. If you want to know more details please feel encouraged to message me. We Ship has setup a very robust vetting system to expose the carriers not following the rules.

To all the other brokers in the industry. We need to do more to fight fraud. So what I'm going to do is start posting emails here once I find out they are definately fraud. I got confirmation from the real owner of the MC so if you get an email from vlad@connectexpresstrucking.com. It is #fraud. I've got another I will be posting. I ran into several on this one shipment. :) I use a pretty simple formula to weed them out. I don't even entertain MC's that are less than 6 months active and then they have to have one inspection. Even if the MC is a valid mc in our system. I cross check the email and phone numbers with the Carrier411. Some use Safer. If it's a different email, I simply take the known email to the MC and copy it into the email where the potential fraud is as well as the phone number that is in carrier411 with the MC that was originally sent. Once you all find some please add #tryingtostealshipments. They are out in full force today. I know I ran into two of them. I think I ran into a few more. I'll only post on here the ones that have been confirmed by the MC in question. repost or share this to all your broker friends one at a time. #theft #stealing #tryingtostealshipments #trucking #truckers #logistics #supplychain #van #trucks

This article serves as proof that the carrier/broker application vetting, registration, and new entrant audit systems at FMCSA are broken. Proper identity and compliance verification prior to issuing Operating Authority is crucial if we want to stop freight fraud. At FreightValidate ✅ ✅, we double check FMCSA’s work and we specifically target bad actors from the moment the application is approved. Those that are non-compliant are identified on our platform with a big ❌ BEFORE the operating authority is ever issued. We call it our #DELTA (Don’t Even Let Them Aboard) initiative.
