To be circular or not to be circular? OK, Hamlet may not have been worrying about this (a bit too concerned with #murder, revenge, #ghosts and mentally unstable girlfriends) but I bet he would have if he'd known it was a possibility. Of course, he'd probably have sat on the fence until it was all far too late...   Getting people off the fence and down on the right side of it is a major issue these days. Public consensus is the cornerstone: the #circulareconomy won't gain traction without it.   The #EUCT on How to advance the circular behaviours that really matter on Wednesday will discuss how to get people to go circular. EVERYDAY ACTIVISM Went for a run (slow jog) this morning and picked up 10 pieces of litter, including three pieces of separate litter from one disposable vape purchase scattered over 20metres or so. I expect the actual disposable vape will have been discarded, lithium-ion battery and all, at a more distant point 😬 In order to make a difference it's easy to feel like we need to do Big Things. I haven't done a 'proper' litter pick armed with litter pickers and a bag in too long. And I've never organised a community litter pick. But even my mini 'plog' (litter picking x jogging) makes a difference - It's ten pieces of litter not in the environment and at risk of entering waterways or harming wildlife. - The people who saw me all red-faced and sweaty stopping to pick up some litter might be inspired to stop and pick up the next piece of rubbish they see rather than walk on by - I've shared it on here - what if 10 people are inspired to pick up their own 10 pieces of rubbish - that's 110 (their 100+my 10!) pieces of litter picked. - AND I can signpost people to the brilliant Laura Young and her wonderful campaign to ban disposable vapes. Environmental activism is a broad spectrum and we need people on every part of the spectrum sharing what they're doing, and inspiring others to join in. Is my 10 piece litter pick going to change the world? No, of course it's not. But it's a very visible sign that I care, that I'm not willing to just walk on by and assume someone else will fix a problem. And by sharing and talking about what I'm doing, I create ripples and invite others along for the journey. What's your piece of #EverydayActivism today? Do share!

It’s nearer the end of Co-production Week than the beginning - time to find out what SCIE have found is missing when attempts are made to truly co-produce services as they are designed, developed and as they evolve. True co-production is challenging, sometimes confusing along the way, and in my experience always rewarding for all involved in the end. Here is a definition from SCIE: ‘Co-production is about working in equal partnership with people using services, carers, families and citizens. Co-production offers the chance to transform social care and health provision to a model that offers people real choice and control.’ My suggestion is to find out how coproduction is working in your county to improve services. About time, although much more is needed, not just in US of course but globally to manage waste more effectively. Bins are just the start… It also takes radical new thinking around circular design, responsible sourcing and seamless underlying technology to track consumer products from creation to demise. And this is before considering the vital importance of simple user experiences to drive meaningful behavioural change.

Posts like this blow my mind. As someone who rates relatively high on the risk-taking spectrum, it's hard to comprehend why it took New York so long to accept facts we just take for granted in Europe. #whomovedmycheese changed my perspective. Apart from being an enthralling story, it enters the psyche behind choices people make when faced with change. Change is inevitable, but so is resistance. We must recognize that resistance isn’t a sign of failure; it’s a natural response to disruption. Here are some key insights to help you lead through resistance: 1. Acknowledge the Common Sources of Resistance: From foot-dragging to outright rebellions, resistance takes various forms. Understand that it’s universal and predictable 2. Roots of Resistance: Dig deeper to uncover why people resist change. Fear of the unknown, loss of control, and perceived threats to status quo are common triggers. 3. Effective Communication: Craft clear, empathetic messages. Explain the “why” behind the change, addressing concerns and uncertainties. Transparency builds trust. Welcome to the 21st century New York. Might be worth mentioning, food shouldn't be left out inside your homes because all those hungry rats will be searching.
