🎉 Last Friday marked the end of my summer internship at Vytalogy Wellness, highlighted by the incredible 600th day OSHA celebration at the Haslet site! This journey has been transformative, filled with significant learning and growth, thanks to the great support from Robert Machado, Chief Supply Chain Officer, Steeve Havel, Director of Operations, my encouraging supervisor Noe Briceno, and all my beloved colleagues. *** During my time here, I deeply engaged with key aspects of lean manufacturing and inventory management: 1. Enhanced #leanmanufacturing by streamlining operations, achieving reduction in operational variances through lot size standardization. 2. Drove #continuousimprovement in inventory management, cutting material over-usage and synchronizing replenishment with production demands. 3. Embraced the principle that #ZeroIsImpossible, learning the critical role of safety and proactive risk management in achieving operational excellence. I deeply appreciate the knowledge gained and the relationships built during this time. I am eager to leverage these experiences to further advance my career in supply chain management. #LifeatVytalogyWellness

The Cincinnati CIO Roundtable in partnership with INTERalliance hosted our annual intern summit at NKU earlier this week, and once I again I got to spend lunch talking with groups of really impressive interns from organizations throughout the greater Cincinnati area. As always, I was blown away by the energy, engagement, and thoughtful questions that the attendees asked. Here are three takeaways: 1. A lot of young folks need to see us being human. Every year, I talk about being an introvert, challenging myself to get out of my shell, and about techniques I used to intentionally handle social situations better. Every year interns light up when they hear that and ask question after question based on their own experiences. If you get the chance, talk about how you've grown, how it felt, and where you struggled. 2. A lot of our careers look like a fixed path from outside. Attendees were often relieved to hear about lateral paths and how broad experiences tended to help the senior IT folks in the room progress in our careers. 3. We need to create more opportunities for teenagers and early career folks to gain access to people at every level of our organizations for conversations like these! Awesome session on Skills Based Hiring and Inclusive Hiring with SIM Seattle Chapter and Year Up last night in Fremont at FREMONT MISCHIEF INC with John Nelson Matt Rossmeissl Saben Emmons and Mj Jensen. Key Takeaways from the Panel: 1) Mentorship, mentorship, mentorship: Keola Ohumukini said it best in that the opportunity to be a mentor is a true privilege and mentoring others (especially those who have less advantage) is important for all of us. 2) Generational Change: The power of Year Up really rests with giving students a unique opportunity to experience tech or a more professional career versus retail or other hourly jobs that are accessible without a college degree. When a Year Up student is able to earn that higher income, higher skill job/career with benefits, we are changing the arc of their career and life and likely their parents and their children as well. Investing in and volunteering with Year Up is a tremendous opportunity. 3) Hands-on Education in IT: Both Mj Jensen & Saben Emmons said that they would have loved a program like Year Up to help break into the tech industry. Much of tech is learned on the job with the right attitude and life skills. Both MJ and Saben have built very successful careers with Expedia Group, Amazon, Bezos Academy and City of Kirkland without a college degree. 4) Get more than you give: Inevitably, Year Up interns are able to push the hiring organizations forward through exposure to diversity of thought, youth, and challenging the status quo. Support the intern... Never mind the big names with big offices (and maybe some big egos :), it is time to support the intern... as this could be mutually beneficial. When you put yourself and your work into the world you never know who is watching (this has surprised me countless times over the last 25 years)... I fully believe in treating everyone well on the way 'up' - I mean, really, whether you are going up or down or side to side, it is really important. The intern may be the person who is gathering the selections and if you are clear, concise, ready etc you could make the intern look excellent when they deliver those choices.
