🇱🇹 🇪🇺 European Commissioner for Defence & Space Andrius Kubilius spoke today at the European Defence Agency annual conference. "The shortfalls in military materiel, if we compare with the Russian war economy, are colossal. We can no longer afford a fragmented and incremental approach. We need a real, big bang approach to increase defence production and acquisition. We also need a European approach." Kubilius said that it was vital that #EUdefence moves to a continental scale, with legislation enabling swift action and funding. Joint investments and aggregated demand will streamline production and reduce costs, ensuring capabilities are delivered on time, he said. Galileo, Europe’s flagship satellite navigation programme, shows what European collective ambition and cooperation can achieve in defence, Kubilius said. Kubilius, who served two terms as Lithuania's prime minister (from 1999 to 2000 and from 2008 to 2012), also paid tribute to EDA after it celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024. ➡️ Watch the full speech here: https://lnkd.in/eTasEr8C ➡️ Read the full news https://lnkd.in/e_n7VMJ4 #EDAConf #StrongerTogether #EUdefence c/European Commission

The NATO phonetic alphabet serves as the most prevalent radiotelephony spelling system, offering a uniform approach for effective communication across various fields. It was created to remove uncertainty in the transmission of letters, thereby guaranteeing accurate communication in essential settings such as military operations, aviation, emergency services, and amateur radio exchanges. By substituting individual letters with unique and easily recognizable words such as "Alpha," "Bravo," and "Charlie," this alphabet reduces the likelihood of misinterpretations during radio communications, especially in environments characterized by noise or high-pressure circumstances where the exchange of precise information is crucial.

The NATO phonetic alphabet is the most widely used radiotelephony spelling alphabet, providing a standardized method for clear communication across diverse sectors. Developed to eliminate ambiguity in letter transmission, it ensures precise communication in critical environments such as military operations, aviation, emergency services, and amateur radio communications. By replacing individual letters with distinct, easily distinguishable words like "Alpha," "Bravo," and "Charlie," the alphabet minimizes misunderstandings during radio transmissions, particularly in noisy or high-stress situations where accurate information exchange is paramount.

It’s crucial for NATO to prioritize the implementation of Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) through comprehensive training across all domains and command levels. SWEDINT contributes by providing training solutions for Joint Synchronisation, helping NATO forces adapt to modern warfare challenges effectively
Yesterday, SWEDINT was visited by representatives from the Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC), the think tank of the U.K. Ministry of Defence. The discussion centred on the NATO concept of Multi Domain Operations (MDO), a concept involving not only the traditional five areas of operation – Maritime, Land, Air, Space and Cyberspace – but also non-military actors. Cdr Leif Hansson, Concept Writer at DCDC, explains the need for MDO -

"We (NATO ACT) are focusing more on change than horizons. So, in order to understand the future requirements for military capability development, for strategy development, we are actually looking into the change today and then we extrapolate the potential implications" "In NATO doctrine we always talk about elements of 'fighting power'. Fighting power sounds a little bit aggressive but it is a core concept to actually uphold peace and security because it creates credible deterrence" "The primary driver which is leading NATO's security environment is the climate breakdown and the loss of biodiversity... it is already impacting us, and it is going to incrementally impact us" These are a few quotes from Dr. Gergely Németh, Head of Strategic Foresight for the NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) that came from the interview conducted by HCSS Analyst Davis H. Ellison. The two were able to sit down together just before HCSS hosted the very first The Hague Strategic Foresight Forum Talks, titled: ‘Navigating Tomorrow: Transatlantic Outlooks on the Future Security Landscape and its Implications for the Netherlands’. See here for a recap of the event: https://lnkd.in/euFDPJDF Dr. Németh was one of the speakers during the event, who presented an assessment of the ‘Security Environment in 2040’ and was kind enough to provide additional remarks on the work being done in Strategic Foresight at NATO ACT, specifically the 2023 Strategic Foresight Analysis (SFA) report.
