Millions are affected by fatty liver disease, and raising awareness is crucial. Wendy Schaufert has dedicated 10 years to working with patients, focusing on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), formerly NAFLD/NASH. Key takeaways: from this excellent video: https://lnkd.in/gZrMTjxm 1. Risk Factors: Obesity, diabetes, and insulin resistance significantly increase the risk of developing MASLD and MASH. 2. Diagnosis: Often silent, the disease is usually detected through routine blood work, ultrasounds, and non-invasive liver stiffness tests like SWI and FibroScan. 3. Management: Lifestyle changes, including weight loss, exercise, and healthy eating, are vital. Even a 5-10% weight loss can make a significant difference. 4. Heart Health: Those with fatty liver disease are at a higher risk of heart-related issues. 5. Awareness and Advocacy: Early detection and management can prevent progression to severe liver conditions like cirrhosis. Education and support are essential. Wendy's work and resources like we offer on our Fatty Liver Alliance website, offer valuable information to help manage and understand this condition better. Let's continue to advocate for awareness and healthier lifestyles!
