No Credit Union Left Behind | Passionate Advocate for Financial Empowerment | Data and Research Geek | CU Lover for Life | Purpose Chaser | Changemaker
The US is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, yet the wealth inequity gap continues to widen, the middle class seems to be disappearing, the cost of living expense increases is outpacing rise in wages, and, and, and... the list goes on. All of these "ands" are creating multiple levels of insecurity-- food insecurity, housing insecurity, education insecurity, wage insecurity. I know several of my friends Christopher Morris, CUDE, CCUFC and Mark Volz, CUDE, CCM who continue to give of their resources and time at these food pantries in Madison. What if each of us were for 30 days to give up "something" that we enjoy (i.e. Starbucks, eating out weekly) and instead donate either that money or goods in kind to our local food pantries? And then once you have figured out that you can probably do without one or two things of small cost in your life, continue to donate that money! Or even maybe go a day without eating anything and provide the money equivalent of meals for that one day to food banks and pantries...and oh by the way it might give you a small "taste" of what it is like not to have food to eat and how that impacts you not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Use the link below to see what the food insecurity looks like in your community. https://lnkd.in/e6HVa2GP FYI, In my small rural county in White County Tennessee, 16.3% of the population are food insecure- 4,480 people. #foodinsecurity #creditunions
It's been one week since a coalition of 36 Dane County food pantries released a letter to the community and held a press conference at the Capitol. We came together to sound an alarm about the rising number of people facing food insecurity and the need for both immediate support and longer-term solutions to the challenges of distributing enough food to meet the growing need. You can get involved in building a community where our neighbors don't have to experience hunger. Better together! Our collaboration with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York was shared in Feeding America's Impact Report. Five days a week, our drivers collect food from participating retailers, including Price Chopper/Market 32, Hannaford, Walmart, Target, and Aldi, and deliver the groceries to Rev. Phil Food Pantry run by Schenectady Community Ministries, AMEN Food Pantry and Catholic Charities of Montgomery County. The food collected includes meat, dairy and produce - items that are not always available at food pantries. So glad to be making an impact right here in our community. Food insecurity in New York City: the facts: - According to the NYC Mayor’s Office, 1.2 million New Yorkers experience food insecurity. - Food insecurity affects people all over the city, but it’s especially a problem in the Bronx, - where 19.7% of people experience food insecurity–the highest rate in the city. - Only 1 in 4 people experiencing a food emergency can access a food pantry - Meanwhile, nearly 40% of food in America is wasted. This list of facts has to be upsetting. Shocking. But here’s another fact: you can do something about it. Today is Giving Tuesday, around the world. When you give to Grassroots Grocery, you’re part of a community that’s all in on changing the story, making a difference, and providing dignified access to fresh, healthy food to all of our neighbors. **TODAY ONLY** The first $5000 raised will be DOUBLE-matched -- TRIPLING your impact. After we raise $5K your donation is still matched—DOUBLING your donation until we raise $35K. Please donate today. https://hubs.ly/Q02b9-Dt0 Then, magnify your generosity. It only takes a few seconds to repost this message to family, friends, colleagues, members of your faith and others. Please don’t forget to Include the hashtags #grassrootsgrocery and #GivingTuesday. Today, neighbor-to-neighbor, we can do something big together. #neighborshelpingneighbors #foodjustice #foodinsecurity #foodemergency #grassrootsgrocery #newyorkfoodrescue #foodrescue #foodrecovery #CareForYourCommunity #NourishYourNeighborhood #foodpantry

Customer Success Story - FoodCycle 🚀 FoodCycle is a UK-based charity that aims to make food poverty, loneliness, and food waste a thing of the past for every community. With weekly community dining, the organization feeds the hungry and offers company to the lonely. After manually handling donations and Gift Aid claims for some time, the organization set out to look for a platform that could keep up with its growth and meet all its needs. This is when they discovered and implemented FinDock, which ended up being the perfect solution for their needs. Carly Shutes, the Head of Marketing at FoodCycle shares: “The reliability we’ve experienced so far is unmatched. This solution is the breath of fresh air we needed. It meets all our current needs, and there’s always a possibility to use more features — but whether we’ll ever need those, depends on our growth!” Read the full story about how FinDock has benefited FoodCycle here: https://lnkd.in/esGHuNti

If we have been lucky in life, we generally can point out the one person that really made a difference in our lives by the way that they believed in us and pushed us to be our best. This great initiative from the EPI-USE APJ team is trying to ensure that kids have that person in their life through their support of the "Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia" charity to address the needs Young People Are Facing through: Discrimination One in four young people have experienced at least one form of discrimination or unjust treatment in the past 12 months among all the socio-economic status groups. Economic Disadvantage 49.6% of children and young people from the lowest socio-economic areas in Australia are not linked in with any co-curricular activities, compared to just 13.3% of those from the highest socio-economic areas. This is largely due to the prohibitive costs of activities for low-income families. Gender Inequality Only 10% of young females aged between 15-19 years old reported to feel being treated equally to young males; 69% agreed that gender inequality is a constant issue in Australia; and only 14% of young females thought they had the equal opportunities as young males to get success in life. Disengagement 1 in 10 young people are completely disengaged from education, employment and training. Mental Illness 75 percent of psychological problems in adults start under the age of 25.In 2016, the top three problems of individual concern for young people meeting the criteria for a likely serious mental disorder were coping with stress (74.9%), school/study issues (59.6%), and depression (58.4%). Suicide Suicide is the leading cause of death for young Australians aged 15-24. Unemployment 1 in 3 young people are without adequate work (unemployed or underemployed). And while supporting such a great cause you will be getting access to some awesome recipes to try out with your family this holiday season! 😀 🎅 🤶 🎄 🎆 🎇
https://lnkd.in/gvSpvpDD EPI-USE New Zealand has published our holiday favourite recipes cookbook. For a small donation you can share in these scrumptious delights and be supporting the Big Brother Big Sister foundation at the same time.
