CALL TO ACTION! Resilience Action Network Africa more than 20 CSOs, including WACI Health, The ONE Campaign, Global Citizen, and more, call on shareholders and IDA decision makers to take the lead for a historic IDA21 replenishment by ensuring and ensure that IDA is well-resourced to help countries respond to historic challenges, and advance the World Bank’s mission to end poverty on a liveable planet. The Africa Heads of State Summit (April 29) in Nairobi was an important moment to showcase the critical role that The World Bank’s International Development Association plays as the largest source of grants and low-cost loans for the world’s 75 poorest countries, 39 of which are in sub-Saharan Africa. The combined toll of the COVID-19 pandemic, accelerating climate change, food insecurity, growing debt distress, and other crises have led to a "historic reversal" in economic growth, which in turn has widened the income gap, stalled efforts to reduce poverty and hunger, and derailed progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. Now is the time to move from words to actions. Read the full letter: https://lnkd.in/dMzBiES6

🤝 Commemorating 60 Years of Impactful Change: World Bank and Mauritania Partnership Last week marked 60 years of partnership between Mauritania and the World Bank. An event celebrating this milestone focused on the significant impact this partnership has had on the poorest and most vulnerable in the country. Held in Nouakchott, in the presence of Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, the symposium emphasized the shared commitment to investing in the country’s #HumanCapital, which the Minister noted is ‘the engine’ of Mauritania’s development. 📖 The event also framed the launch of the World Bank’s Mauritania Human Capital Review, which you can read in English here: EN: https://bit.ly/428B7qt One compelling example of this partnership's impact is the story of Aunty Hindou. Her family, along with 200,000 of the country’s poorest and most vulnerable households, is registered under the single national registry. It was via this registry that she met the criteria to benefit from #SocialSafetyNets that have helped her to predictably plan her finances, invest in income-generating activities, and have the confidence to know that she can meet her children’s needs. When extreme climate events struck, the country’s shock-response program ensured that for Aunty Hindou these climate shocks didn’t become crises. The program came to her support when she had lost everything due to first floods, then drought. During the four months of support, she was able to continue feeding her family, ensure their shelter, and access essential services. 🎬We invite you to watch #SASPP colleague Dieynaba Diallo, as she recounts Aunty Hindou's experience and join us in acknowledging the profound impact of this partnership. Her story underscores the World Bank’s ongoing commitment to creating a world free of poverty — on a livable planet. 🌱 #SASPP #PPSAS #BanqueMondiale #development #developpement #CapitalHumaine #FiletsSociaux

@UN Recommendations to Accelerate Sustainable Development Goals in Africa The report shows that Africa is on track to reach only less than three of the 32 targets assessed in this report (ASDR-2024) and that setbacks have been recorded for 8 of them, with slow progress or status quo registered for the remaining targets. The continent is also facing an alarming increase in the number of people facing hunger, undernourishment, and stunting. Modest progress in poverty reduction has been offset by multiple crises in recent years, and social protection is inadequate in coverage, fragmented, and largely informal. Comprehensive economic and institutional reforms to enhance efficiency and optimal use of resources are among the report’s recommendations.

#Africa is central to the worldwide mission to eradicate poverty on a livable planet, accounting for over 70% of IDA's global commitments. (The World Bank) The IDA for Africa Heads of State Summit is currently taking place in #Kenya. African governments, civil society, and youth will examine the key priorities for financing in Africa and push an ambitious financing replenishment of IDA21, the current IDA replenishment cycle. “With an historically large IDA replenishment, Africa can become an even stronger contributor to global prosperity and progress. This is a moment of incredible opportunity for Africa and for the world, to not just imagine a better future, but to build it for people and for the planet. Let’s not waste it,” say Mavis Owusu-Gyamfi (Vice President, African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET)) & Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli (CEO, The ONE Campaign) for African Business Magazine. In the article on their expectations for the summit they stress the importance of meeting the challenges and opportunities of the growing continent, among other things: https://lnkd.in/d3U25pGN We believe that joining forces in dialogue is key: At our Circle “Adapting the Global Financial Architecture: Leveraging #IDA for Multilateral Solutions” with partner The World Bank, we discussed the need to reform the Global Financial Architecture with a particular focus on the replenishment of #IDA21.
