Change isn’t just about technology and process
I recently had the privilege of attending a virtual lunch with our Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and several colleagues from various departments at Randstad Enterprise and Randstad RiseSmart. One of the most striking aspects of our discussion was the emphasis on change. This theme resonated deeply with me and prompted me to reflect on the myriad of changes I've witnessed, not only in our workplace but throughout my entire professional journey.
The transformations we've experienced go far beyond advancements in technology and improvements in processes. Our approach to numerous workplace issues has undergone a significant evolution. When I first embarked on my career, topics such as the gender pay gap, LGBT+ rights, ethnicity, mental health and wellbeing, and neurodiversity were rarely, if ever, brought up in professional settings. The idea of gender parity in boardrooms was almost non-existent, and these critical discussions were conspicuously absent from the corporate agenda.
As I reflected on this, I realised how much I've had to adapt over the years to fit into molds that were never truly designed for someone like me. From the inflexible expectations of corporate dress codes to managing 100s of different personalities in one room, I have often felt like an outsider, constantly striving to conform to norms that didn’t resonate with my true self.
This journey of adaptation has been challenging, yet it has also been incredibly illuminating. Each adjustment required me to navigate and negotiate my identity within professional spaces that were, at times, unwelcoming. Despite these challenges, I’ve learned the importance of resilience and authenticity.
I accidentally established that my authenticity is my greatest strength. I embrace my uniqueness and celebrate the diversity that makes me, me. I stand tall in my truth and encourage others to do the same.
Whilst being unapologetically myself and living a life true to who I am.
Thank you for taking the time to chat Lorna Elias David Vincent and Jas Dhesi Yolanda Tieleman Giovanni Osorio, I got so much insight from our conversation.
